usb zip drive for 500?

I'm thinking of buying a 500 to work on beats on the go, then load them into my 2000xl to take advantage of the 8 outs for recording purposes.

Can I hook a usb zip drive up to the 500 for file transfers b/w the two?

My plan is to save my programs and sequences from the 500 to the usb zip drive, then load that zip disk into the 2000xl linked to a scsi zip drive for finessing.

Doable?

Someone mentioned something like this in the 2500 forums, basically wondering if an external USB hard drive would work. The answer to that thread was NO.

No, you can not connect a USB drive to the MPC500.

The MPC500 only operates in USB slave mode as a USB Mass Storage Device, it can not operate as a USB Host to allow connection of disk drives and other devices to it.

You would have to either connect a card reader to your MPC2000xl, to allow it to read the MPC500 Compact Flash memory cards ('if' it worked, you would have to test it), or transfer the MPC500 data into a computer by direct USB connection or a Compact Flash card reader on the computer, and then save it from the computer onto a Zip drive to transfer into the MPC2000xl.
