what sample times do you find are best (or the shortest you can get away with) for different types of sounds such as;

Drum Hits (Kick, Snare, Hats...)

Synth Leads, Pads..sounds that you want to have a long Sustain on...

using an MPC60 with Full Memory 3.10e OS.

What's the point?

Set it to a longer time and just trim off what you don't need.

fair enough. just thought some users who've been using the 60 for awhile may use set times just to make things quicker...

Yeah I guess if you've been using it for a while you might mess with the time like that.

If you're only sampling one sound from the source then you might know how to control it better. But usually, I chop drum loops so I just set the sample time enough to get the whole break in, then chop the sounds up and trim what I don't need. I hardly ever use every second of the mem up so I have a lil extra to play with.

Of course I sample at 45rpm too, so that helps a lot.

Id say sample each part of the song as you go, because if you have a 4 second break then you fill up most of you memory with other ish. Then you want to copy your break 5 times to take 5 hits out, your gona run outa room.

I sample my break, chop the hits, delete the mem i dont need, then sample everything else.

.5 for snares and kicks longer for 808's

and like .3 for high hats

does that help? haha

if that's the way you like to do it then that's cool...i don't know if it necessarily helps as such, im just collecting info;)

i think truncating is probably the best but you still need to set the sample time to something right..?
