Busted MPC? Format and CF card issuez..

hi ther mpc people, i just recently got a 2nd hand mpc 1000 and been having major issuez with it, i have never used 1 b4 so i am wondering wat tha deal iz , mayb sum1 can enlighten me..the problems are loading and saving and formatting of cards, etc, basically it iz sporadic and flaky, eg, i boot up and it doesnt see the data on tha CF card, or i load some sampelz on 2 tha cad via usb and it doesnt see them, sometimez if take the card out reboot it see'z them, sometimez not.. i thought the problem might be the old akai OS so i upgraded to free JJ, then i bought the paid for version, but still problemz, , i have 3 x CF cardz, 2 brand new, (sandisk/danelec) i am just as my wit'z end as to know watz going on? is the mp broken? iz this normal behaviour?? i have tried different usb cable, different port, diff cardz, have tried formatting on pc with card reader all is problematic and can see no logic to it, has anybody had this issue? do u think there is a problem with the MP! : ( i have literally spent approx 20 hourz trying to figure a workaround and nothing seemz reliable at all.. the other day i waz on a session and couldnt get tha thing working for 2 hourz!!!..

i have accidentally loaded some aif'z on tha card previously.. does this corrupt anything?

You mentioned formatting the cards from your PC, but have you tried the format option from within the MPC yet?

hey tx 4 tha pickup! yea, i have tried that, as a last resort when i cant format in tha mp, i noticed that it givez tha cf a name like mpc@something but not much else is different i presume, i have read that catz here say format with fat (fat16) but when you have done a successful format with mp, it sayz fat32 vol.. nehow.. i've tried both.. do u know if CF cardz are reliable? iz HD ne better? i'm skint @ tha moment so i hope i dont hav 2 get this fixed and i wouldnt wanna sell it on.. if it'z not working properly.. karma & that! one strange thing is if tha machinez bin off for a while it seemz 2 read.. i'm 99% on that.. everything'z so sporadic it'z hard 2 get a lock-on on anything definite re- wat worx and wat dont! : ( !!

Dude, sounds like you need to get a HD and the JJ OS.
Seriously, I used to have those same probs, now everything's sweet.

this may help ...somethin to do with the formating in akai os...dont use that to format use the jj os.

hey u katz, tx 4 tha help, appreciated.. forumz a godsend! i am on JJ OS @ tha mo, (4.55) and have been for a while... when i read on here that tha Akai legacy OS, corrupted tingz.. it mayb that i need 2 do another OS re-install, i'm on 4.55...... it'z been a fun journey so far 4 sho.. i have done a fair amount of testing.. saying that tho, coz i been pulling sampelz offa my pc sequencer sampel archive i have on occasion accidentally pulled ova sum 48k sampelz/mp3'z and aif'z/gpk'z etc..! i didnt notice @ first so thatz been hindering my testing 4 sho.. coz i dnt think tha MP likez it! lol! JBellz, did u have issuez on JJ OS with ur CF'z? i have ordered an HD adaptor and i'll try my laptop HD innit (after ghosting it!) and c wat tha deal.. i've already bought memory and CF'z 4 it but i'm runnin outta money now! any other viewz/help or feedback on CF stability/HD'z etc would b appreciated!
