Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

So after being dissatisfied with the 2kXL's manual pages on the EB16 Filter/EQ function I was hoping you peeps could share some knowledge with me...

1) Is the 'Q' the same as the quality of a filter, that which controls the filter damping?

2) Are you all able to effectively use it as a high pass filter? Just by setting the low frequencies to - inf. I was trying to isolate a Wes Montgomery guitar lick, and it seems I may have to turn down the stereo mix volume and just crank the FX send on the same pad to get a full 'wet' signal. True?

I see this effect (filter) more as eq than a good filter/isolator. It's very helpful though.

that's true, that's how it has to be done to achieve more effect out of this...hmm effect :)

from manual - "The larger the number, the wider the effect"

I think it may have something to do with damping, but not 100 p sure.

I've never tried to use it in such purpose.
For total isolation I always put samples through Ableton's EQ and it does the job very well.
I mainly use 4 band eq in MPC to have wah-wah on some samples, sometimes it helpes me in getting rid of low frequencies...But I don't think it is capable of working as an isolator.
Maybe it depends on how much dry sound you put into mix and how much wet (sends only) lie you've mentioned before. I've never played with it to check every possibility, software was enough.

Q is the resonant point i believe

The q is how narrow or wide the eq is at the given frequency.

On the eb 16 a filter with a high q affects a larger range centered on the frequency whereas a low q only effects the frequencies close to the center frequency.

The two filters with q on the eb 16 are bell-curve or notch filters. So the "bell" part of the curve is widened or narrowed according to q setting.

It is pretty much the same as the resonance control on the internal MPC LP filter

yeh i wish it was like the 3 band eq in ableton, that rocks my world.
