Another plus that's not a bug fix but clearly an efficiency improvement somewhere in the code (although this could have been in 5.09 already, I was using 5.08 ) -- faster loading/previews in the Load view; it's now almost instantaneous.

I also have mixed feelings about the smaller typeface used everywhere; while the pros are that you can see more info, readability goes down a bit.

yeah, they did the same thing with the smaller text on the JJ OS for the 1000. But once you get used to it, it's all good.

Just let him know you don't like it.
He used it before and people didn't like it so he went back to the standard font.
If he knows people are unhappy with it he will probably change it back again.

sorry for offtopic, but i didn't want to make new thread for this .. but do i lose my warranty if i install jj's os?

going back to large font would be regressive

readability is not compromised at all - is there really anyone here who has a harder time reading the new font? if so you must REALLY have a hard time reading these forums, as 90% of the text on the boards is smaller than that of the new jj os.

this way is more professional and just looks better, not to mention allows for more room.

Actually it's the other way around it makes the screens look hacked.
On the 2500 you can simply compare 5.09 and 5.10 to see the difference.
It has nothing to do with being legible it just looks hacked.
The same was true of various 2500 screens until JJ gave them a uniform format.
When he tries to make too much use of the available screen space it gives the screens that cluttered look that he had with the v3 version.
The cleaner direct to Akai look works better on the 2500.
A smaller somewhat italicized font doesn't look more professional by any means.
The smaller font is the regression.

then why fuss? you wouldn't view your PC monitor on its lowest resolution - why your mpc?

why? are your beats somehow more professional sounding when the text is bigger? it works better on the 2500 the same way the cleaner, less featured Akai OS works better on the 2500 - that is to say not at all.

Because when you work on the 2500 for long hours everyday it makes a difference.
It's not the size it's the font.
The more rounded letters make the screen look more jumble than the squared off letters.
This was one of the early problems with the 2500 OS JJ was assumoing more info was better when his problem was just poor screen navigations.
When he went to v5 he cleaned his arrangements so that the screens had a more consistent flow.
If the 1k had a tilt screen maybe you could better understand.
Unlike the 1k the combo of the squared letters and tilt allow you to view the screen from various positions, which is very helpful when you have a lot of gear that you are working with.
It's not aesthetic it's just one of the many things that makes working on a 2500 different from the 1k, the positionable screen.

No because the letters are more curved than blocked.


At any rate this has gone on long enough so I move on.
The discussion can now go back to v5.10 and it's benefits and shortfalls.

The larger..standard font is much better in my book. I don't really need JJ to play around with that part of the OS. I would much rather they concentrate their efforts in a bug free release, which has yet to be accomplished.

I am still curious what available memory is left for the OS to grow. The 1000s memory has been maxed out (according to JJ), however the MPC 2500s OS is larger. One of you experts have an opinion related to this
