Different sounds with MPCs

I searched but found no results.

I always hear people talking about the different MPCs have different sounds(example: MPC X has a more gritty sound compared to MPC Y's digital sound). How is that when you're sampling? Do the different MPCs change the sounds of your samples?

Depends on the quality of the a/d converters. Older mpc's have older converters..........

the mpc60 is 12bit. most are 16, and the 4k can do 24. check out wikipedia for MPC and look at sample rates of each machine thats probaly what youre thinkin of.

No, I think not. A lot of people claim that a 3000 with 16Bit/44.1kHz sounds different than a 2000 or 2500 with 16Bit/44.1kHz. It's indeed a matter of AD/DA-converters and their tuning. But from a objective point of view, the differences are that small that you can easily reach the same effects with a halfway decent EQ or filter.

Technically speaking, you lose quality in any case when sampling. Just in most cases it isn't audible. And older converters doesn't necessarily mean worse converters.

Alot of people look for this as a quality they want when it comes to things like 12bit samplers / sequencers...

drums sampled in 12bit sound real dope and crunchy, and 16 bit is usually better for melodys.. but it all comes down to personal preference.

For instance premos drums are done in 12bit (s950).. and melody 16bit (mpc)

I'm not sure about the terminology for the MPC but is it true that you can't remove the lows/highs(is this referred to as mixing?) with the MPC and that you'll need a mixer?

If that's true then what can you do to your samlpes?

Why would u wanna filter? thats a crazy question...

Filter the bottom end off ur hi hats so they sound nice.. filter the top end off ur kicks, so they warm and clean, filter the bottom end out of ur melody if ur adding bass to it... or maybe filter top end off ur melody, but then have a few chops from it that u filtered bottom end off.. so u can bring them in every so often over ur bass chops.. etc etc..

Just depends what u wanna do... but thats a kinda crazy question isnt it?

U can either use the filter to clean chops up.. or u can use it in creative ways to shape the sounds certain way

what was that site that gave a good comparison of all the samplers? I remember it made the s950 sound like shit and the 2000xl had the best sound.

s950's sound dope as f**k for drums, not too good for melodys tho.. but i love the sound they give drums.. real crunchy and full..

s950 is what premo still uses for his drums.. thats what gives them that sound

Dont worry about that sh!t man.. we are sampling, this is hiphop.. its not about "perfect quality" hense so many peeps go with 12bit samplers for the sound..

U will get a much better sound from samplin off vinyl rather then cd i will say that
