MPC 128MB card problem. Newbie to Akai.

So it's like this. The 2500 came with a 128mb Akai card. We bought it new from guitar center. The memory, when loading the card, seems messed up because we usb'd everything to the computer to clear it, formatted the card, and it still says we have only 5 meg's available. Theres supposed to be 128, which, as you can see, is why I'm confused. We got a few samples on it, sure, but 5 megs aint enough when your using .wav and there not compressed.

Anyone have this problem? Any insight?

do you mean the 128mb memory expansion or a cf-card?
the standard cf-card that comes with the 2500 got only 32mb...

The card says 128mb on it, so im not sure. We're new to the Akai so I couldn't tell you what a cf card even is. What is that, anyway?

CF= Compact Flash

a Compact Flash-Card is what fits into the slot front of mpc and the 128mb memory expansion is inside the maschine . cf card is removeable

The 128mb card is removeable though. I just dont understand why something that says 128mb, even formatted, gives me just 5mb free space. Is this something no one else here has encountered? Should i just buy a new card or what?

Maybe you could find a pic online or something and post it so people know what you're referring to?


If it came with your machine at guitar center, then you can probably buy it online. Post a pic and heads will be able to help more easily.

...the cf card is for storage only. you need the ram expansion for more sample time. you are still lucky because most of us just got the 32mb cf card with the mpc. this is why some people now confuse the card and the internal memory.
go read the boards it´s all there...

Yes, they obviously also shipped 2500s with a 128MB CF card.

You should try reading the card in a PCs card reader and check what it says there.
