XL vs. Asr-10

I have the 2kxl(without the EB16) and I feel comfortable with it. I copped the Asr keyboard about two months ago to get the effects and other advantages of it. The main idea was to sample into asr and sequence in the xl. First, I was very pleased with the sound and functions of asr, but as I try to use it more and more, I feel like it's slowing me down because of the time it takes to chop up things and makes them organised. When I want to chop the sample into five parts, it is very simple and fast on the asr, but when it comes to chopping into more than that, it starts to be a mess. I bought the asr for about 450 dollars and I want to ask, should I sell it for 700 and get the EB16 and some vinyl, or try to mess around with it for a longer time to get used to it, or buy emu's mo' phat and the eb16? I know it is all personal preference and there is no right way, I ask for suggestions to get the idea of different possibilities. I like the heavy sampled beats, no synths. Any advice would be highly appreciated

I would say keep the ASR. The effects are bangin, way better than the 2k effects board. I don't understand what's so hard about chopping on the ASR, but this is like the third thread about it. I have an ASR X, and its easy as shit to chop.

i would keep the asr. you will get used to chopping the effects are really dope. but it's all up to you.

once you program yourself,the asr is vury fast for chopping samples, and this function uses no extra memory.

the asr is one of the most advanced sampler ever.


keep it, it will only go up in value.

keep the asr man, like the lord said, just make youself learn the machine to its fullest potential, think about the countless guys who use the sp1200 or other drum machines without the advanced chopping options that the mpc has..

you say you like the heavy sample sound, nothing compares to the 2000xl and asr-10, well maybe the mpc 60 and sp1200 hahaha...........

but if you definately feel like its "slowing" you down sell it..

yupppp the a in asr stand for advanced

EB-16 is the worse effects board. Don't waste your money on that. ASR-10 Effects are far more superior. I have both and don't even use the EB-16..

You're talking about the best keyboard sampler ever made-learn that thing and you'll be glad.

I sold the ASR and the XL and I got a pair of new active monitors, a MircoKorg and the mpc 1000. As soon as I sell my old monitors and old midi keyboard, I'll still have about 400 bucks left, which I'll probably spend on some vinyl.. I feel much better about my gear right now. jk jk..just do you, work with whatever you feel comfortable with. At the end of the day, the music is the only thing that matters.

I know, I know... But I feel better, and that's what's important to me. On top of that, I made a few very good beats that I would not probably do on the older setup. I do not regret what I did at all, and I hope I won't in the future. I plan on upgrading to the 2500 at some point, but right now, this is all I need.
