abolish PP, replace with track note placement?

guys, i just had a good idea that i think might really do some nice things for people who like patch phrase and people who like chopped samples.

what if the 2 become combined? in doing so, jj can remove the code needed to do PP, and instead, do this:

1 - load sample
2 - chop sample
3 - PROMPT: place in track
4 - sample is inserted into the track as chopped

explanation: each sample note is placed into your sequence plays in sequential order, estimated to the nearest tick of when it would have played originally.

this would be as if you entered the sample manually after chopping - just both extremely accurate AND faster. it'd also be the same as a patched phrase with a lot more individual control, wouldn't it?

I would love this, seems to be possible to me, too. Like having recycle chopping up the sample plus giving you the midi file, sweet.

I got an email from jj about this today, I had made 2 feature request, they said that they couldn't do patchphrase to sequence at all, and they said that they could not do the split track feature we've all been talking about unless they earased some other feature do to the os size limit.

Tell em to get rid of the screenshots, not much of a need for it.

that's what i expected. i wonder if removing patchphrase would free up enough room.

Just thought about it, removing pp will give you a compatibility problem with older os, at least for users who do use pp...

that is true. however, all it would take is chopping the PP...

I don't know but that's a good idea you've got, I wish we had more room, I wonder if there are any paticular features that the majority would be willing to give up for a specified tailored os if there was some concensus on it maybe we could compile a list and let jj take out what we don't need.

man i really want that split track feature, also nym's idea hear is really good. We should really consider getting rid of some things to make room.

I always find PP to be a bit unflexible anyway, this solution would mean alot more scope.

i'm going to use simult sequence (to have different tracks length. but i really don't care about realtime pitch, screen thingy, p.mode, and audio track grid mode...

Never got into the whole audio track thing too, got my pc running ableton next to the mpc. Anyone who doesnt want to live without it anymore? From all i read here it has never made it to a finished feature, or is that just my imagination?

nah IT WORKS. don't delete that.
i use it once in awhile and it works ok.
its kinda like having the functionality of ableton's recording stuffed into
the 1000.

not the greatest thing, but it does the job.
don't get rid of that....
