Lets make this the official thread of things we could do without in the JJ OS so we can get better things such as Nym's Patch Phrase alternative and the track split idea. I really think those both are really good features that we need on our 1k.

i do have to say that "track split" is very easily done without a special feature. we're talking a 1 minute manual process, maximum...

but i agree with the idea of this thread.

1 - Old Program mode. There is nothing in old program mode that wouldn't be better implemented in Global Param Edit.

2 - Old Slider mode. if "high" and "low" could be set into Qlink Grid Edit, there wouldn't be much point for the Old Slider mode assignment.

3 - Old Patched Phrase.

4 - this is debatable, but frankly, i'd prefer sequencing power over halfassed mpc1000 effects.

Really against removing FX, since I use the MPC as a standalone and simply need them.

I also want to keep old program mode, global param edit already is too crammed with stuff.

They should just start offering two versions of JJ. One that is more traditional for the masses, and one where they start cutting features to make way for radical new ones that those who are daring enough could use.

But yeah, as sub-par as the effects are I really think they should stay. They help to test out ideas and whatnot without having to work outside the MPC.

how do you determine something being "too crammed with stuff?" you must REALLY hate mixer mode.

dude, it's just parameters. everything is clearly labeled and conveniently placed. information is there, displayed in numbers. there is better access to more information, quicker.

who needs empty space? it doesn't take but 20 seconds to learn where everything is. not to mention the ability to select "whole"

i'm sorry, but i just do not understand this tendency people have toward wanting "big font" and screens/functions that only display a couple pieces of information...

it's too bad there's just not a way to store the OS on the CF card instead and have it loaded into RAM upon startup. 128MB vs. 5MB

yeah. but it's no problem. we're not exactly in a dire position here, feature wise.

we can see from this thread that there are folks who have yet to use certain features.

what we should consider here is REDUNDANCY and how to AVOID it. condensing similar features without losing anything function wise.

The fact that you don't need the FX shows what kind of different use we both make of the MPC. I don't think there's a point in discussing this. I just don't need any more features.

I really love the way JJ removes bugs. But less bugs help everyone. New features or changes don't. That's it.

Though maybe you're right about program mode.

yeah that's why i said FX would be debatable, and i do find myself using them more lately than before - but that's just it, because as i said i'd rather have more sequencing power. not a problem though, i knew the FX thing would be contested, understandably so.

no existing feature really replaces FX unfortunately

good ideas but how do you edit layer levels/tune from jj program screen... isnt it just 'per pad'? i often overlook stuff but always end up using program mode to layer snares and such. it seems pretty easy to do in that sense.

other features that *i* definitely dont want or need is the lower bitrate stuff and taking the audio slicing/mapping features too far.

97% of what i do on the mpc is all drums... i use a daw and hardware synths and want more of the focus going into workflow and letting me work with edits/fills/changeups a lot faster. i want to be able to hit mute (track) on the main screen with overdub on and have it record (i dont like the track mute interface at all) the mutes. i want to be able to delete event ranges yet have that particular track retain its original length... i do a lot of PRODUCTION if that makes any sense and want to keep my workflow incredibly fast.

deleting the pitch and fx just on the input thru screen. I think that's a waste. If you need a small fx box for live gigs get a Sp 404 or something

Are we really ready to get rid of some (useful to some or lots of users) features for some others we even know if can be really working...?

Maybe it's time to say, hey you got an MPC1000... maybe are we asking for an MPC4000?

the truth is... it's great to power on my mpc... and see it works as a swiss clock. And if i compare it with itself a year ago... it's two different machines.

Things to sacrifice... i don't know what... splash sreen? screen capture?

but i'm afraid one day, searching for new features... jj get tired ... and quits supporting OS... this would be bad... nope? maybe it's better clean the few bugs... and if there's any little room for some feature more... welcome!...

In my own opinion.

By ONE Sat Apr 14, 2007 8:23 pm
Yeah, I do agree. I would rather see JJ clean up all the bugs in this OS and make it really solid. To tell you the truth I'm tired of waiting for updates. I just want one final solid OS.
