mission- i use sample layers all the time, they're the most vital part of a program IMO

so if we were to see Program mode removed, we'd have to be sure that the parameters currently not controlled by global param control would have to be implemented.

basically, we currently have 2 program makers. both get the job done, but 1 has a lot more control than the other. why not just consolidate the 2? take from PROGRAM mode what GLOBAL PARAM EDIT currently cannot do and merge them once and for all.

but i agree - layers MUST be put into GPE.

people are so quick to be negative...makes we wonder if they have followed this whole JJ episode at all..

i think this thread is totally needed. it is perfectly in line with JJ's announcement that the available memory had expired - it is the last logical step in what has been very much a two-way OS development.

as well as a DEFINITIVE list of outstanding bugs, a list (or better yet a poll?) of the most-used and least-used features would make interesting reading. JJ would hopefully then take a decision, or even ask for guidance on what MAY be removed in order to allow final modifications.

i fully look forward to the time when there are NO more updates, because I bought an MPC to get away from that mindstate, but right now we are able to help finetune the basic workflow elements of what is already a highly usable machine, and i think that is great!

i would personally be happy to lose the splash screen, the screenshots (sorry stan!) and the pitch shift. i would also like to bin all the other fx as they are harsh tinny garbation but i understand others wont agree (clean yer frickin ears out jk). i also vote for smaller fonts and condensed screens where poss, i dont need fisher price legending just yet.

There is. In fact, this is the way the original JJ (BEFORE they called 'em JJ) "alternative" OS programs worked. They used a .bos file at the root of the flash and you pressed and held one of the buttons at startup to tell the machine if you wanted the "alternative" loaded up or not. The approach might hold some promise in the future...

wow for real? they could like double the OS size or more doing that

"hot swappable OS"

the os itself is just the "loader."
you boot up your mpc and then go to hard drive or mem card and say "load step edit" or "load grid edit"

likewise, maybe you could replace certain functions with others as you need them.

sounds pretty crazy, probably be impossible, but it's an interesting way of packing a million more functions into 1 os.

hmmmmmm

Maybe it's time to say, hey you got an MPC1000... maybe are we asking for an MPC4000?

the truth is... it's great to power on my mpc... and see it works as a swiss clock. And if i compare it with itself a year ago... it's two different machines.

Things to sacrifice... i don't know what... splash sreen? screen capture?

but i'm afraid one day, searching for new features... jj get tired ... and quits supporting OS... this would be bad... nope? maybe it's better clean the few bugs... and if there's any little room for some feature more... welcome!...

In my own opinion.

Co-sign.

And about the "definitive bug list": How's that supposed to work? New bugs come up with every update, maybe even with every bugfix.

And: removing any of the basic features now would be unfair to anyone who bought this OS and needs that feature. How would you like it to buy something and then having to give (important) parts of it back?

As I said before, you can't make the perfect OS for everyone. Just look at the few people who posted their wishes and how different those wishes are.

well....all i'd like to see is if anything goes...the stuff that is basically doing the same function as something newly implemented with the jj os...all's that is needed is to make sure the main features are added to the newly jjos features...so that it works the same...just in a new inviroment...

i also support the idea of the CFcard loading the Added-jjos-XXL features...ontop of a cleaned up main JJOS on the memory...stablize and clean up the main one...then move on to the CFcard for more additional features...this thing could be more then a machine...

i'd forgotten that, lol! bear in mind you'll be eating into sampling time with increased OS size.

i think we should have 2 seprate OS's. One with the old Program mode, one without it and newer features like PP alternative and track split recording. I really would love those two features.

somebody should send an email

By cl516 Sun Apr 15, 2007 5:25 pm
somebody should stop and tell me, "Dude here is the point that you should stop updating because from here on out we're gonna dive into the extreme. Those who want slightly more traditional OS should wait here."

I'm all for new features but yeah sometimes there's a bit too much that we don't fully use.
