sound comparisons????

any chance to get a sticky or whatever dedicated to sound comparisons..

i guess at the most it would have to be machine vs machine, since most people with more than one mpc have two, i woudnt ask different people to post thier individual files, meaning same song wiht just one machine, since thier are x factors, like needles, mixer, etc, things that may add different color with different equipment... i'm hoping that this would be a good way to give people a very solid sound comparison, probably the most important factor when choosing a machine...

lock or delete or move if this is the wrong place or whatever..

i know their are others who are curious to see what different machines sound like.....

i know i would really love to hear the 2000xl vs. 3000...

add to the list and hopefully someone will be able to post comparisons...........

what "difference" are you looking for?...If you feed a sampler a sample, it spits out the same sound that you fed it...unless you are using a 12 bit sampler like the old school mpc 60 then you would get a dirty (static) sound...the mpc2000-mpc2500 series are all sampling 16 BIT so there is no difference in the quality of the sample....

so im under the asumption that you own a 2500,1000,2000xl, and a 3000 to make such claims??

its no secret that thiers a small but distinct different in sound between the 2000xl and the 1000

we're looking at the way that the different machines "color" the sound on the a/d and d/a converters.....

I doubt anyone outside this forum would even notice the slightest sound difference between these different models.

You can TOTALLY tell the difference in the sound of the MPC's. 16 bit does not sound the same on every machine. They are all constructed of different electrical components that give different character to the sound of the respective machine. The 2000XL is a bit brighter but the Filter is more powerful for basslines , the 3000 has a crunchy sound to it. I like them both for different things. A Sound comparison of each machine actually has been done a couple of times hre on this forum....

...yeh, which was inconclusive. Half the people here(including myself) thought the 2500 sound clip was infact the 3000 soundclip and visa versa.

Real talk

if anyone wants to do a true comparison, the following would have to be done

use 1 source for all sampling
use the same sampled material

first - record into both units.
now save both recordings onto their respective disk drives
load into a computer
listen and observe differences.

THEN the outs must be tested. sample a sound onto your PC first, and then digitally transfer it to your mpc via portable medium. load it, and then record both OUT and compare contrast again.

finally, sample the same material into both and then turn around and record the sample played from both onto the same source. compare.

this way you test INS only, OUTS only, and then OVERALL

My boy has a 3000 and my cousin has the 1000. one day me and my cousin went to my boys house and honestly we could hear no difference. My boy agrees, anyone who claims the 3000 has a "better" sound is smoking some good ish. His opinion has really swayed me toward looking at the newer mpc's.

Of course there are differences in the machines, they have all different components, and therefore they don't aound exactlyt the same.

Many people would not hear the differences, and I wouldnt either, when I first got myself an MPC2000XL. After rocking that for two years, I got the 3000 and heard some difference.

And the way I really hear the difference is when I loaded some sound I had worked with alot on the 3000 on the 2000XL: that way i heard that there had to be differences in the sound of the samplers.

Maybe a sound sampled and played on the same machine compared to the same sound sampled and played on another machine sounds pretty much the same, but the sound sampled on the 3000 played on the 2000XL was very different then played on the 3000.

If you have worked years on one machine, you will be known to its sound. Maybe then you will hear the difference.

And if you take a walk to another house to listen to another machine, it would not be a good way to compare them. You should have the machines next to eachother, and to tests with sounds you know, on a set of monitors you know.

But even if they all sound a bit different, they all sound pretty good, and you can make them sound good by getting to know the machine.

the 2000xl and 1000 are pretty easy to tell apart, I can't speak on the 3000 since I only owned those 2.
