ah, so the midi out from the mpc is connected to the midi in of the axiom?

You can get the VST to respond to the MPC via the MIDI port on the PC, not the Axiom. This is causing a loop hence the retriggers.

yep, that does sound like the problem, doesn't it?

No. The midi out from the mpc is to the midi in of the motu.
The only midi connection from the mpc to the axiom is from mpc midi in 1 to axiom midi out.

I think maybe I have a messed up wiring setup?

Ok, I will unhook the mpc from axiom and try different ways with just the motu and mpc.

I appreciate all the help from the 2 of you.

Can I make the mpc tell the controller (axiom) to play the vst without the mpc and axiom being connected via midi? Just from the mpc and motu being midi connected?

it's just you say: "and to have the mpc tell it to play the vst." which means you must have a midi out on the mpc connected to the axiom midi in.

Yes. The mpc does tell the axiom to play the vst but it's not hooked up from mpc midi out to axiom midi in.

I just watched some tutorial videos for nuendo when I first setup my stuff and set it up like they said to. And also some info from sparq.

how can it tell the axiom to play the vst if it's not connected to it?

i think you need to understand what's going on a little better.

the mpc is sending midi signals through the motu to nuendo, and that is playing the VSTi. the axiom also sends midi signals to nuendo through its usb cable.

The MPC doesn't need to tell the Axiom to do anything to play the VST !

The Axiom is just a keyboard controller.

To get the MPC to "play" a VST (although I'm not sure why you would want to do this) you use the MIDI connection between the PC and the MPC. Just hook the Axiom up to the PC via it's USB connection, and the MPC to the PC via the PC's MIDI ports.

Unless you are using the Axiom as your MIDI interface for everything ??

Do you have MIDI ports on the PC other than those on the Axiom ?

I don't know how it tells it to play it like that. It just does. lol
It's hard for me to understand better, as I have nobody to be around and show me. I try to learn on my own. I used to come here and ask, but people started getting rude.

If I open a vst and go to track 10 in my mpc and use that as a midi track and play the axiom with the standalone or nuendo controlled vst, the mpc will keep the vst playing just like I did it on the axiom while recording.

Ok.

No. I just use the axiom midi connector to the mpc because I thought that's how it had to be to play the vst when the mpc told it to.

Yes. My motu has a midi in and midi out. Both hooked up to the mpc.

lovesign turn on your msn?

the clue should be the labels on the midi ports. midi is only one way. midi out port to midi in. if you have the midi out on the axiom connected to the midi in on the mpc, then the midi data is going from the axiom to the mpc. this is why, when the mpc is recording, and you play a vst, the mpc records it. the mpc is actually playing the vst through the motu as you have the mpc midi out connected to the motu midi in.

Thanks for the help modnaR. lovesign helped me get all setup. It was a problem with the midi and the axiom.

It is squared away now and I should be fine. Thanks again.

It's good to see this type of thread on here. I salute you ModnaR & Lovesign. That is what these boards are supposed to be for. Not that RTFM crap. :o

I have a question for thos of you who always say, RTFM, and you know who you are. Does the manual cover the dialog in this thread? Are you knowledgeable enough to provide this type of useful information?

Hmmm, it's just a question.

Congrats to you Waldog, I'm glad you got your situation worked out.

Much props to modnaR and Lovesign for their patience and troubleshooting...

I just wanted to point out to Putter that there are many people who help on this forum... it's not that people just blow off others problems and say RTFM... usually, when someone says RTFM it's because the person either

a) showed no evidence of trying to research the problem and help themselves, or

b) asked a question that is addressed either in a sticky, or countless other posts... sometimes even on the same page that they started a new thread on...

People have been bitchin a lot about the RTFM responses, but I have to say that most of the time if someone gets a RTFM, then it is deserved... there are a lot of cool cats willing to help if people show they are willing to learn...

Anyway... good job modnaR and lovesign, and anyone else who helped... nice to see an interesting situation remedied.

Nice to see this being resolved, good work everybody.

And for the rtfm, if a question is that basic you can find the answer by looking at the index of the manual you can be sure the poster didnt read the manual and will be stumbling across lots of these question if he never does.

And even worse if the thread got a really stupid name like "Help!!", just annoying. Like this thread: http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=72437

while i can see where you're coming from, i replied to this question because the guy appeared to have a genuine problem outside of the norm. if it had been something like: "how do you sample through the digital input?" then i wouldn't have bothered answering. i think tbonus pretty much sums it up. if someone's prepared to try first off, and use the forums as a last resort, it's fairly obvious, saying 'i searched and found nothing' is more likely to mean 'i don't know how to search properly' or they're just plain lying, and thus will get the rtfm response, or no answers at all.

As soon as you see this, hit me up on MSN.

I may have an even better way to fix your setup !! :D :D
