Again, what about the 2nd point, is this a bug? Display error? Noone ever noticed?

Yeah, something's wrong with slice. My sliced samples were cut about 220 samples before the point I selected. Used a short sample though.

Another thing:
I used a sample with a length of 44100, chopped it in two and didn't correct anything, which should lead to two equal slices. The sliced samples that came out were 23488 and 23197 samples long (which doesn't add up to 44100).
I think I'll report it.

That's false.
The accuracy of the chop is based on a mathematical formula. Some programs have better formulas than others. Since JJ added this function, possibly the formula he used is not as solid as the one used by Propellerheads/NI/AKAI/etc...

But dont forget, when chopping and release isnt 0 there will be samples added in the end. I´m talking bout the beginning of the chop.

Release was set to zero. Have you tried it?

This was just another issue. I also had yours.

No, it seems to be the same thing i described. Maybe it depends on the length of the sample chopped how many samples are added or sth. weird.

Anyway, I reported it and gave these two as examples.

I was just trying the same thing before I read your post. My sample was132012 samples in length. I used slice and split the sample into two sections. Each section should have been 66006 samples long but one section was 67444 in length the other 67153 in length. I also had the sample release turned down to zero, so I can rule that out.
Also my original sample was stereo. When I converted it to mono it was still 132012 samples in length. I then used the same method of splitting the sample that I used on the stereo sample. It yielded different results, but they were still incorrect.

Buy the way turning up sample release makes no difference. It should have lengthened the samples but it did not. Seems like another bug.

Ok I take it back... there is room for improvement, but it will never work perfectly... I have never seen any software that has a perfect autochop.

My point was it's an imperfect science better left to humans to do manually then to a computer and a formula, since without obvious transients the computer will fail.

Have you reported it?

Just did.
I also did my own bug report on the inacurate slicing that You and I have had problems with.

i don't use auto-chop. kick it out, free some code!

By Dahkter Thu Apr 19, 2007 5:43 pm
It's a function that works well on sections with well defiined transients (not very well on drum loops, I agree).
It can be inspiring, even just for random sounds created out of a random sample. Why leave out a creative function that can easily be improved?
Try the autochop with different settings, if you don't like it, then chop yourself.
Do not delete features that make this machine fun and exciting to use. Improve yes, remove no.

I stated this elsewhere but for this threads sake, i 2nd this........
