No 1K!!!

Went to my local GC here in VA Beach and after slowly making my way around, I finally asked a sales person if they had one on display. Come to find out they didn't even have one in the store. People are buying these things like hot cakes...LOL. Besides that I'll be buying my MPC 1K in about 2 weeks when I get paid . I was really looking forward to getting a hands on feel of the unit, but I guess I'll have to wait till then. Anyways I look forward to being part of da MPC-Tutor fam .

Ya I can't wait though , but I got a chance to look at some other gear. My heart is still set on the 1K.

i like the machine but i am waiting for a new model cuz when i got the machine out of the box all the button. data wheel etc.. were off-centered from the top by about a couple eights of and inch.

i think the quality control on these machines are crap.

Well damn that's really f'd up...Why did ya friend return the 1K?

Too many issues. I messed with it a lot and it is great in concept but them bugs really **** you up.

I could also tell that roger linn didn't work on the machine, it was laid out logically but not rationally.

so the os upgrades werent fixing anything? also what were the problems you were running into cuz i have been using version 1.0 i think and i honestly havent stumbled across anything yet.

I was thinking the same thing as buzzcut.

He had the latest OS in it. I didn't check the pad sensitivity or anything, nor did we plug it in to the computer. I had fun with it, but the tap tempo button engaging when trying to do note repeat was one issue. Corrupted data, I can ask him for more details, but it was a bit of a nightmare for him.
He got a 2000 blown out instead for 799, so I can't fault him.

I returned four of them myself. Three of them because the pad sensitivity was so f@#$%^-up. Even with the hidden screen velocity adjustment I couldn't get them all even. Some had pads that played full velocity all the time. They were fine full level on, but that's unusable to me. I was about to keep one till I used the digital out and heard a ticking/clock noise that I couldn't get rid of. VERY VERY dissapointing. I love the machine though and hooking up to the computer is great, but I've given up for now. I stupidly sold my 2000xl when the 1k was announced. I'm going to wait a while or until Akai acknowledges that the quality control sucks.

Think of it as a empty drum machine. If you have access to a PC then you can sample drums, snares, hi-hats, basses, etc. When you buy a regular drum machine or workstation you're usually stuck with those sounds that are already programed in there, but with this you can have this 10yrs from now and still be doing your thing with new sounds. Do you keep your factory stereo in your car? Then why have factory sounds when you're producing?
