How do I compress .wav files on my PC for the MPC1K?

When I order .wav sample CDs they are smaller (KBs) than when I sample them myself. How do I compress my .wav files on my PC(Laptop)? Also, when I load samples from my PC to the FC, then dump them into the MPC1K not all of them will load correctly. Where does this problem commonly arise from?

The MPC1000 only accepts 44,100 Hz. 16 bit stereo or mono samples. It will not work with compressed samples. I am not sure why you would want to do this anyway as compression usually degrades the wav file anyway. When you say that the sample CD's wav files are smaller than your sampled sounds, are you sampling at a higher resolution than 44,100 16 bit? Most sample CD's are at this rate except for a few newer ones that are sampling at 24 bit etc (these would not work in the MPC1K). A 44,100 16 bit sample is about 10 megs per minute for a stereo file and half that for a mono one. I have also heard other people on here mention some problems on the MPC1K with wav files that have extra data in the header of the file like how Acid writes extra data to the file etc. I hope this helps you out.
