just do it as an edit screen like on the mpc2000xl. its called resample on the 2000xl....not resample in normal sense, but sample to a lower bit.........

Yeah this was my original idea for a resample option, i've posted the idea to JJ so lets hope he can create this!
peace!

you started the monster! haha :) http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=67860

na, actually I agree with ya......

If you have used the ASR-10, S-950, EMAX or any of the older samplers then you might understand that the whole bit rate thing isn't what you are after.
What you should be asking JJ for is variable sample rates (freq).
If he offer the ability to actually sample at different freq then you would have all the sound character you could desire.
Notice how even tho the ASR-10 is 16-bit it sounds different depending on if it is sampling at 44.1k or 29.76k?
The same is true of any sampler that has variable sample rates regardless the bit rate it functions at, especially on units that have a continually variable rate..
You really want the rate to be a sampling setting especially since the MPC can resample.
All these bit rate algorithms just act like distortion effects.
If JJ could give us the ability to sample at 12k, 16k, 32k and 44k you could pretty much get any sound you wanted.
And if it was a sample that you loaded from some source you could simply resample it to a desired rate.
Personalyy I think frontend sample freq is what we need not some bit rate algorithm to distort the sound.
Just go to some of the older samplers and you should hear what I am explaining.
What do you think?

I never thought I would post this, but you are - unfortunately - right.

This bloody OS is sometimes driving me nuts.
Have anyone tried syncing the MPC to the computer? There is a beautiful bug that resets the settings of the MPC and erases what you've recorded as soon as you stop your sequencer.
Actually lots of weird stuff happens when the MPC is in sync. Today the data wheel stopped working in the file browser. Just the file browser.

Madness...

Although I think the JJOS is an opportunity for the MPC OS to develop further - and Akai doesn't seem to keen on that. Unfortunately.

I think the resample effect on the 2000xl was able to adjust that too..........if I remember correctly.

But yeah, I totally agree with ya.

One VOTE for VARIABLE SAMPLE RATE!

No that's not what I'm talking about.
I am referring to different rates when you actually sample.
The problem with things like what the 2k did is that the sample is still playing at 44.1 but being interpeted differently.
When you have a sampler that allows the variable rates when you actually sample you get all the artifacts and elements of the lower bandwidth.
It really makes a difference in the way samples sound.

That's not the O.S.

No? Well, what is it then?

The Akai OS never behaved like this. And earlier version of the JJOS worked just fine.

It's something based on your unit or a habit.
Bugs are always seen by multiple users.
The chance of only one person seeing a bug is pretty slim.
Have you started a thread describing the problems you are seeing or asked others about it?
If so what's the name of the thread I'd like to read it to understand what problems you are having.

got it! 8)

Not only would it work to give the sound more character but it also allows for more effective memory use.
The only problem that could arise would be whether or not the effects have to work at 44.1.
The goal would be top sample at a rate say 32k, process and 32k then output at 32k.
You wouldn't want it to be sampled at a 32k interpetation process at 44.1 output at a 32k interpetation.
If you take something like one of the Roland SP's (202/303) notice how the available memory changes based on the sampling mode, that's what you are looking more along the lines of.
The question is can JJ pull it off?
I guess we won't know if we don't ask.

I agree with you that if I'm the only one experiencing this, the chances are quite slim it's a general problem with the OS. But at the same time - it doesn't make any sense.
After all this problem appears with some versions of the JJOS. Not all. And this is why I posted a reply to this thread.
The solution is easy. Just to go back to an older JJOS version - or using the Akai OS. My way of synchronizing the MPC to my computer is exactly the same as before. But you gave me an idea - I've just recently updated the OS for my Virus TI (which handles MIDI as well). Maybe this is where the problem is laying. But this doesn't explain why the data wheel is not working in the file menu when in sync. But that - doesn't really matter.

Will investigate further.
