Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By djrag Thu Apr 19, 2007 10:53 pm
Just got my first MPC, a 2000xl, already found some things not as described on its listing on ebay so am trying to see how well it works (but not easy as im a complete newb)

Hopefully someone may be able to tell me one of two things - im doing it wrong or my mpc is bust....

When i go to loop...i have set all the settings like it tells me in the manual, (around page 28) and it says to start recording hold down rec and press overdub. after a one bar count, recording will start and the bar, beat tick numbers will increase....

well, this doesnt happen for me...when i hold rec and press overdub, nothing happens. the metronome doesnt start and i have to hold overdub to keep its light on. the counter doesnt start to go and if i do press a drum sound, only then does the counter do anything, it CHANGES but doesnt keep going continuously. its almost like its freezing or just updating when i press something. Then when i listen to it, its recorded it but sounds bad as
obviously i cant hear it and i dont have a metronome or counter going.

the settings ARE exactly as described in the manual, however im wondering if something else is set and stopping me looping properly, or is it just bust?

i can play and record fine, metronome goes off etc, but how can i overdub that if the metronome doesnt start or the counter...its weird....PLEASE HELP!!

you need to hit record and play start for it to start recording

or over dub and play start

yeh that works thx....so any ideas as to why in the manual they say "start recording by holding down REC and pressing OVERDUB...." ...strange...

i noticed that years ago when i got my xl. everything i own has one or two things that the manual will tell you but its wrong. its just one of those instances where a company puts in wrong data or even more so, information from an old model of the MPC, and thats a page they didnt change i guess.

thanks for the help both...

yeh its cool thanks for asking ! its something i've always wanted, i know im a bit late hehehe but u gotta start somewhere!

im still learning how to do things from the manual which is tedious and i just wanna get onto the creative side obviously, but work is just getting busier and busier.

its annoying having to ask stuff every step of the way but its reassuring the help u can get from these forums and to know someone has had the same problem as u and normally found the answer here...

peace!

If you have the scratch, I highly recommend getting the guide for the MPC2000XL on this site...helped me out a ton.
