pretty much echos the thoughts/feelings of many people on here...

what i love is that a self-confessed 'mpc virgin' is reviewing the 500 then has a part of the review titled 'which mpc is for me?' (and goes on to prop the 1000)

i cannot beLieve how much bad Hype surrounds the 500 and honestly it's getting to be a bit much.

Still, it's a pretty positive review.

I just think a lot of folk like to ****, and the 500 has seemed like a good target for all the bitching. I like my 500 for the simple fact that it is the best sampler around that isn't much bigger than a paperback book.

I'm not an MPC guy, in that the alternatives to the 500 for me wouldn't be the 1000, it'd be something small, light, portable, of which there simply aren't many around.

I think it’s a really solid machine for the size. I mean c’mon, what’s this small that has most of the functions of the other MPC’s. All the complaints if the small screen that they make a huge deal of. If you don’t have it then, don’t complain about it. And if you do have it, then deal with it cuz you purchased it. And if your just a hater… then oh well.

And I kind of like the screen. It's easy enough to read for a small LCD and the blue black light isn't irritating when on. I was playing around the other day and was able to easily zip through all the functions. I've had mine for 4-5 months, so now that I've had some experience with it, I pretty much know where everything I need is. And the screen contains a lot more info than what's on my DSI Evolver, and I can manage with it pretty easily.

I'm not sure what caused the ill will towards the 500. It's just a piece of gear, nothing particularly life defining. The 500 isn't perfect by any means, but it does a pretty good job at doing what it should.
