Have you tried the software sampler route?
There are many options: Kontakt, Halion, EXS 24.
Dedicated hardware samples took a nose dive about 4 years ago but they can still be found on ebay:
Ones to look out for: Akai S3000XL (same sapling engine as the MPC 2000 xl but more comprehensive features), S5000, S6000, Z4 and Z8. The Emu series (particularly nice filters). Kurzweil K2XXX series. The ensoniq ASR-10 (a great sounding, old fashioned synth/sampler, limited memory.)
Many modern workstations (Triton etc.) have sampling as standard or as an option but may be a bit excessive for your needs. If you can live with the 32 meg memory limit then the akai s3000xl is a good cheap(ish) option and are quite common on ebay. If you have a powerful enough computer the software option is also worth considering.
