this pisses me off!

Imagine owning an MPC 2000 back in '97, no tips, no hints, and no clues as to how to operate it . Now imagine it's 2004 and you find a forum on the internet that offers information that could have knocked yrs off of your learning curve in terms of mastering a piece of machinary that costed you thousands. Everytime a go into one of these posts I have either learned something new or have had some sort of refresher course. I wish that this forum was around back in the days. Damn, for all you kats that are up in here count your blessings that this shit is available. Cause on the real, muthaphucker's in real life ain't going to offer shit in terms of mentoring. Rant over. One

You are on the money Six Illion Dollar Main! Back in the day, if you weren't down with a crew who shared info, you were either super creative, smart or ass-out. And Noooooooobody used a computer making Hiphop! (That's a long story.)

I'm new to the MPC... And I've only been producin for a about 3 years... And believe me I am grateful for every tip I get and try to give advice as much as I receive it... What goes around comes around... Sites like this need to stay alive cause then everyone can benefit and force production to a new level... Keep pushin the limits everybody...

word. i used to feel the same exact way about dj'ing. all the stuff i had to learn on my own wound up on the net or in videos telling you exactly what to do. i think that hip hop production is going to be the next thing to go that route. im definately thankful for these forums (& the main site). i could have bought an asr 10 & learned about it from 5 or 6 good friends but i wanted to be different & i copped the mp, which nobody i know uses. except maybe for drums & drums only. this site has been a very helpful tool for me.

this would be me. Imagine having to piece together through midi, a Yamaha sequencer, an Alesis drum machine, a Casio keyboard and an Akai sampler without EVER having heard of midi, and NO internet. Its funny when I see people ask the simplest questions like, "how do I hook up my turntable to my MPC" or "how do I hook up my Triton to the MPC through midi"... I don't know man, maybe something in the water is making people uncreative and dumb.

I definitely agree. I always thought hooking up the wires was common sense... I hooked up like every stereo in my house and two or three at a friend's crib, I had my mpc connected in less than five minutes when i bought it and that included unpacking the box and breaking the plastic. I wish I had internet back then, woulda saved me mad floppies of wasted stuff...

seriously, its like basic math... how can anyone NOT KNOW how to hook up simple schit.

I usta wire stereos and video eqiupment all the time back in the days...i never understood how someone didn't know how to rewire their cable when they move to a new crib...please!

Word! When people ask about hooking up tables I can't believe it myself. I was hooking up stereo equipment and experimenting (mostly wrecking sh!t) before I was old enough to be in school! I don't get it either!

Ya'll don't know how many turntables I wrecked before I even heard what a scratch was. A turntable didn't last more than a week when I was a child. If a four year old can figure it out by himself (myself), so can a teenager or an adult...feel me!

When you find something out yoursel you kina feel better cause at the beginning you think youre the only one to know how you did it.

But many people dont have the time to sit around on their equipment experimenting on the connections/dont want to do anything wrong.
The MPC is still a pretty much expensive piece of hardware, so i understand why many peeps ask before they do something wrong.
