SP 404 or mpc 500? need help

sup fellas, i need an honest opinion on which machine to get. Ive use the mpc2000xl in the past, so my lean is towards the mpc! but the mpc500 seems a bit pricey(can get it for 600). the sp 404 offers good value with limitations but the same can be said for the mpc500! my budget is very limited since im a student and I dont have any aspirations to be a pro, I just want to make good music! thanx

I would go back to the XL, you can probably get one second hand for the price of a new MPC500. Plus, you'd be able to do so much more on the XL.

I did not like the sp. I sold it 2 weeks after I bought it. I love my 2kxl.

episode's advice is good. i would never consider buying a 500, unless i spend mad hours on the road. Its just looks like its too compact for its own good.

the sp is a very ill machine if your into basics. everything is done by ear, and its famous for its missing feature- pitch control. It was the next step after the mpc for me. After you learn how to fight- then you learn to fight blindfolded.

thanx, i did some lookin around and did find some mpc1000s for the price of the 500< i do not want to spend 600 but i guess if I buy the forsp 404 for 400 I may be pissin my money away...I found them on ebay, so im iffy about making such a big purchase through them!...oh and whats this about unresponsive pads on the 1000, i can imagine a used versions pads must be on their last legs...

spend a bit more on a used 2kxl or a new mpc1000.

damn, the 1000 just jumped price on ebay from 500 to 6 papers! you guys thin 600 is a fair price considering its from ebay and the complications the 1000 may cause? this is more complicated then I thought, I guess since its alot of money, I cant afford to make a mistake!

i would not buy a used 1000 unless its mad cheap. 600 is too much imo

Best bang-for-your-buck deal would be a 2000XL. It has so many features, especially for the price that you can get one for. Highly customizable (if you're into that kind of thing), lots of upgrade options, etc.

dont replace your mpc with an sp-404. There totally different machines and you might regret it and miss key features of an mpc. I personally love the 404, but its not meant to be worked like an mpc..

Ima try talking down the price of the mpc500 to around 500, do you guys think its a fair price??the 1000's seem to have inflated in price on ebay , ever since I decided to buy one! ima make my purchase by friday, i hope.thanx again for the imput

before you buy anything, go to a music store or guitar center and ask if they have any display or used mpcs

you can talk GC down for those a HELL of a lot

You can resample a pad and change the pitch on the sp404
