cf issues

im getting "disk directory full" error when im trying to copy samples to
my CF.

anyone have any suggestion?

i seem to have to delete samples to even put anything on eventhough
i have 478MB of room on a 512 card.

im on a mac

What machine/operating system did you use to format this card?

im on 1.07

should i copy everthing off the cf and format it again?

secondly should i be using another OS?

1.07 is certainly "vintage" At this point but hey, to each his own. The good thing about 1.07 is that it doesn't have the fatal formatting routine bug present in 2.1, so at least we know you're OK there.

If you formatted with the MPC it should work, you might try dismounting and mounting the drive to see if the problem goes away. Also, make sure the CF is properly seated in the MPC CF slot. Reformatting might have some effect, but you also might want to try using a different CF reader (usb/pcmcia) and see if that works.

Both the Akai V1 and V2 usb systems were pretty lame so it's not impossible that there's some kind of issue when using it with the Mac, but I can't remember any specific complaints being posted in this direction.

As far as using a different OS, my only advice is to try them and see if they work for you. Just don't format anything with Akai 2.1. JJ 3.06 is a good one to start with.

Is that true? My suspicion is that all the AKAI OSes had that same bug. I don't know for sure, but the problem that Spectre is having is the same problem that I first encountered which led me to troubleshoot what was going on, which in turn led me to the corruption that the OS was causing.

Sounds just like one of the first symptoms of corrupted files which means that I think 1.07 probably had the same file corruption problems as 2.01.

My advice would be to immediately backup all the files on your CF card before stuff starts to disappear (like mine did soon after the false "DRIVE FULL" messages), and then get the JJ OS (3.06 is free and will solve your problem, but it's definately worth the $30 to get the latest version) and then reformat your CF card with the new OS.

I never saw the "new folder" etc bug turn up on here until V2. My drives were only formatted with 1.07 and JJ and I never experienced the bug. We know for a fact that the format routine was changed between V1 and V2.

That said, it never hurts to backup and reformat anyway.

You can just start it up like normal and do LOAD on the .bin file like it was a sample. The MPC will handle the rest.

Or I think you can hold WINDOW as you turn on the machine and that also does the same thing.

Just make sure you do a reformat after 3.06 is up and running -- that's what makes the diffrence.
