2000 vs 2000xl

Afternoon all, was after a little advice as im new to MPC's.
Want to pick up a 2nd hand one on ebay, 2000 or xl, just not sure if its worth holding on for the xl version, which i see slightly less often on ebay.

Have checked out the MPC comparison charts and past posts(admin pls dont lock this ive looked around cant find anything like this!) but its all too technical for a newbie like me...

as its my first MPC, are the improvements made to the xl version really worth it or will i be more than satisfied with the 2000? any advice more than welcome...thanks!!

Djrag don't let people steer your wrong my brother. The 2000xl does have some features such as "time stretch" and automatic OS systerm load up, but that Jog dial is garbage. I have been using the 2000 since 1997 and most people are right when they say that whatever unit you start on and get comfortable with is usually the one you are loyal to. However I have tried every single MPC out there and although each one has some unique features to me the 2000 is so much more user friendly than the rest. The data/digit jog dial will have you jumping to the exact field in a hot sec. If you choose the XL you will have to be holding shift just to jump to the next field which is a pain in the ass. In my opinion from experience the 2000 is the unsung hero of MPC's. It deserves alot more credit than people give it. Not to mention that you will be saving some dough for features you really don't need. I just wanted to give you an alternate route to think about. Peace

I like the classic more than the xl
what Maleet said about the jogdail is absolutely true
there are only 3 or 4 things that are great additions on the xl: Timestretch, resample, 4 programs in sequence, the ability to hookup a atapi cardreader (that is the biggest difference for me).
The rest are minor things.
Just for the record, I have em both.

I have used both, and I would say you go for the 2000XL.

The XL has a lot of nice extra features, and the storage options with folders and the possibility of putting your storage media right into your computer is nice.

I also loved the tilt-screen on the XL.

And that you don't have to load the OS every time.

And the jog-wheel its really not a pain in the ass: its not a big deal hitting shift to dial in greater numbers. It works great! And with the shift+note variation slider trick its beyond dope. The jog wheel on the 2000 is great, but I dont think its a good enough reason to choose the 2000 over the XL.

I also loved the four individual bank keys instead of hvaing only one for all the four banks.

And the next sequence key and the track mute screen where you can mute the sequence track by hitting the pads is very cool.

And its actually a bit flatter, so its not as big. And the powerbutton on the 2000 is crap and is allways missing on the 2000.

But they are the same sampler, and there is not big differences when it comes to what beats you can make on it. The big differences is mainly in the workflow and the outside of the machine, and some small differences in the OS and sound engine.
