MPC Shut down

Hi @ all,

I´m new in this forum and i luv it...

I have a question that is maybe hillarious for you but i wonder if there is a special way to shut down the MPC (2500). Is it right after saving all my work just to go to the main menu and press the On/Off button

I´m always affraid off "crashing" my MPC, when i turn them off... I know it sounds weird...

don't worry geeza...just push the power button and that is It!

nothin to it. just turn it off the same way you turn it on. no harm done.

...if you have a harddisk built in you can wait a few seconds for it to spin down, but i think they can handle the power down since they are designed for laptops.

hahaa...ever since Microsoft introduced the "You may now shut down your computer" screen, people are worrying about just shutting off a piece of equipment

You're right...I can't deny that myself.

...in the case of windows there´s a reason for this: since the os from win95 on is not writing to the hdd at the same moment you are using the pc, but is waiting for idle times to do some operations, it can lead to data loss or corruption if you power down while the os is trying to finish its work. therefore the "it´s save now.." message is of good help.

in case of the mpc i think there´s no time shifting in data operations involved and we use laptop hdds, so it might be save to just turn it of. there´s also no dedicated reset button so it is designed to be turned off to reset it.

actually i think it has to do with the applications that are open and still utilizing the hard drives. if you turn off your pc while an application is still writing to the hard drive, it may write some data to it but not update the table of contents on the hard drive. if the table of contents on your drive doesn't match the data that's on it, it's going to lead to problems, so the "shutdown" screen just makes sure that all applications are closed before shutting down the pc.

you shouldn't have any problems shutting down your mpc as long as you don't do it when it's in the process of saving something to disc.
