Is it really worth double?

The MP2000XL?? Im diggin the sound of this 2500, but no joke the machine costs two 2000xls price-wise. unless theres an online dealer i'm not seein...are you guys dishin out the 2 grand asking price?

The sound difference between that 2 machines is secondary.
You pay the extra grand for USB connectivity, internal HD, Mem. Card slot, CD-RW Drive and WAV file compatibility.
Oh i forgot the 8 Outs and Effects you get on board with the 2500!

If you don´t need any of this stuff take the 2000XL.
If sound is everything, i would take the MPC 3000.
But when running your MPC through an mixer, EQ etc. it´s absolutely secondary.
As a stand alone MPC the 3000 has the best sound for sure.

I had em all and it had cost me a lot of cash and time to find this out

i bartered with a store to £810 and the loan of a 1000 in the mean time

And I copped one used at Guitar Center for a little over $860. Then went back a month later and bought another one with dvd drive and a compact flash card for a little over $870 (God I love that GC). Would I pay around 2 grand for a 2500? No. I don't think they're worth near that. I have trouble paying that much for full blown workstations. My advice, keep exactly what you have, because the 2500 is not a huge upgrade over a 2000XL anyways. I actually prefer the 2KXL. The 2500 sounds way too clean, but some people prefer that too, so it's all preference.

If you are going to buy one and let it sit around your house as a conversation piece (like me) then $2000 may be a little steep. Can't say if it is worth it or not....I guess it depends on how deep your conversations get.

Now if it generates money for you, then I would say its a great investment. Whether you get an MPC 2000XL or 2500, both are great machines. I would pass on the MPC 3000 if this is your first MPC purchase. Most of the ones on eBay are not in that great of a shape and probably shouldn't be because most of them are 20 years old. The ones that are great shape can cost you more than an MPC 2500 and offer you very little in terms of features.

Snatch a stock 2500 off ebay for about $1200 if you are patient. After that you can get the hard drive from http://www.newegg.com they did have them for around $54. I have heard you can get the ram very cheap if you go with a compatible third party company. With shipping and every thing you can get yourself a loaded one for under $ 1500.

yo KD what were u tryin to show me w/ that one link?? the price for the 2500 was 2grand there too. And one other question about the 2500, with the Cd-ROM drive it comes with, that would be able to sample from only right?

Don't look at advertised prices. The dealers can't advertise their actual prices. Give a dealer a call. Check companies like VST Service or Alto Music...and see who gives you the better deal.

I am not sure what you mean exactly...but if you have the CD Rom drive installed, you can sample from CDs and load audio files from CD or DVD roms. You can also burn CDs.
