MIDI routing into MPC2500

I'm using a motif ES rack and sequencing it through an MPC2500. When I start recording, my ES rack changes sounds. Also, during playback, it lags about a 1/2 second before starting to play. What could my problem be? How do I fix this? It just started happening one day out the blue! Can anybody solve this problem?
