On the STR8-80 the only switch when I pull the platter off, is the 115 to 220 voltage conversion switch used for pluggin it in in europe and other countries. Its a red switch and says 115 on it. Do I unscrew the part under the platter?

No. It should be right there, it is on mine.

I took your advice and got the STR8 80 with a Shure M35X Cartridge. But I am still getting a humming noise when I turn the bass up. I had the same problem with my old cheap a$$ Numark with the cartridge and mixer it came with. So I took everything out of my studio except the turntable and mixer and I still got the humming noise. Then I tried the turntable and the receiver and still got the same noise. I need a clean sound. I would like to sample bass and kicks off of records but I can't because it is distorted. How do I get rid of this sound? Thanks

sounds like a grounding problem to me....make sure your turntable is grounded to your mixer and that your mixer is properly grounded...your mixers powercable should ground your mixer....also the building where your power is coming from may a have strange electrical setup and this may also be a problem that could be causing your humming...you also say you hear it when you "turn the bass up" as well......just make sure your not clipping the signal out anywhere in the chain of turntable to mixer and to your mpc.....this is most likely not it but woth mentioning....problem is more likely either your mixer or your grounding sounds like to me....

The srt8 100 doesn't need a ground wire, I imagine it is the same with the 80.

Are you using rca to rca cables orrca to quarter inch? If the latter make sure you have mono quarters on the end.

Also plug the tt into a different outlet and see if you get the same noise.

You should have the mixer and tt on the same outlet.

The STR8 80 has an internal ground so I don't think it is a grounding problem.
I am using RCA to RCA cables. As far as the outlets, I moved to a new apartment and had the same issue at my old place also. So I dont see how it could be an outlet problem. This issue has been driving me crazy for awhile. I've been sampling with just mids and highs. As soon as I turn the bass up a little bit I can hear the humming sound. HELP!!!!

make sure your signal wires arent by any power wires. Especially the ones by the speakers.
