Best records for scratching?

I have been messing with samples for years, but just recently I have been getting very interested in scratching. A friend gave me one of his old belt drive turntables just to get me started, but I eventually hope to get a direct drive. Anyway, I was wondering what would be the best way to start learning on my own? I just can't seem to get a good scratch sound. Are there any specific types of records that scratch better? And what type of record do DJ's use that just have the same beat looped over and over? Where do you get these, and are these the type I should use to scratch? I know this is very basic stuff, but we all have to start sometime... Thanks in advance.

there called "battle records" records filled with loops, breaks, phrases, weird sounds etc.... ask your dealer....

old school 12 inch singles... never skip... deep grooves... classical music, jazz, soul, don't limit yourself to just newer hip hop and battle records... battle records are good for practicing tho... Scratch Live is pretty cool for gettin sounds of the net.

on the superduck breaks you have all the classic stuff you'll need for practicing. but there are soooo many good battle records...

you should check out dirt styles, they have some nice covers as well :wink:

just get some dj swamp skipproof scratch tool records and act like you got skills... :lol:

can you even scratch with belt drives? If you wanna get into scratchin i advise just saving up and getting a set of SL's on ebay

yeah diggin for words to scratch, thats the best you get some really weird shi+ some times.
