No 1K!!!

Well, I bought mine at a music show in London, then jumped straight on a plane to Dublin (Ireland) and had no problems. I manually tweaked the pad sensitivity after a few weeks, it's more consistent now.

Since the pads are so Physical, some variation is natural, like guitars. I suspect even humidity is a factor, and they take a little time to loosen up, I've read here...

I'm happy with mine and can recommend it highly, as long as you don't need compatibilty with older MPCs or Akai format CDs. Otherwise you're laughing... 8)

There are lots of people that have had no trouble @ all with their mpc, you hear some people bitchh b/c they got stuck with a bad batch. I'm not gonna say it flawless b/c then my ish will crash when I get home. It's the luck of the draw man. If you buy it from zzounds or muciansfriend they have 30 day no questions return policy. I think itds worth it but I'm sure some people disagree. good luck -peace

I'm not sure when/where to try another batch just yet. Still bummed I sold the 2000xl.

Be like me.. WAIT a year or so. It will be worth it.

1 year = Flawless MPC1000 with a lower price.

I had to return my first one too, because one of the pads wasn't seated correctly. 2nd one has had no issues.

I have some real issues with the software and the sampler architecture (or toal lack thereof) but for the most part, the thing just works.

I would really, really, really, really, really, really like to be able to control volume for an entire program, though.

Ditto for filters & routing (not controllable per program, just per pad), but I can live without those.

It's not a genius piece of gear, but it is a sufficient tool for a particular mode of working. As a MIDI writing 'pad' with a built-in drum sample-player, it's pretty useful for my style of writing... ymmv.

My 1k has no problems at all. Solid peice of gear. I had to reset my pad sensativities to even them out, but that's easy.

The day I bought my 1000 it didnt trigger a sample ONE time during playback in song mode (one of the more so called common 1000 problems). Since then its been over 2 months and it hasnt done it since....seems kinda strange to me but im loving the 1000, been flawless for me except that one time....

got mine from sam ash in nyc; hardware seems tight. no problem. buy your mpc without fear, they are soild. of course you are going to hear alot of problems on a forum like this, but look how many madly-dedicated users are here who wouldn't give them up for anything.....

but ya if you are suspect bout the 1k, go with the 2kxl its tried and tested

OK, I think this sums it up.


Most people who have a 1k expect it to either be some "miracle machine" or be just like the MPC that they, or their buddy had (and mastered). It is a solid peice of gear, but it's not the "End All" of gear, and it is not "Just Like" a 2K,3K,4K or even close to a 60. Love it or leave it for being a NEW MPC.

My homeboy has a 2K, and there are large differences in how they work, similar layouts and famliar methods for doing things, but they use different lot # of curcuitry, different sound processing parameters and different options for sound manipulation.

Different will be good, there just hasn't been a producer to blow up and shout out the 1K, yet.

And, when there is, there will all kinds of cats talking about how they "Love" the 1K.

For now, it's hated for being different. Should be a familiar sounding theme to all you older hiphop heads.

I believe the biggest difference in the MPC1000 is the size. Thats why I pick it over all the other MPC's. Perfect for a dorm room or small apartment and also to mention it's weight.
