directory error ???

why do i get "directory error" when im trying to save my beat.

hard to know exactly but the hard drive may be formatted incorrectly or corrupt.

Reformat the drive through your MPC and it sould be fixed.

Be warned this will delete everything on the drive so you might wanna back up first.

When I would load sample libraries and convert them to patch phrases, I was getting directory errors when I would save them. I formatted and reformatted. Both compact flash and internal hard disk gave me the same errors. I was able to save them to internal memory (5mb worth).

In the end I called Akai and we tried renaming the samples with only two character names. This was the issue for me. For some reason the loop samples on the cd had too long of a name for the mpc to save it without erroring out.

Yeah, thats a notorious mpc problem (the name limitation). You haveta keep your names short, including any directory names.

short names and folders... use them please.

Who woulda thought so many problems could arise from too many characters in a seq or sample name. Thats retarded.

By short names, do we mean less than 8... or is there another magic number to observe?

I forgot to mention that a hyphen was in some of the names. That seemed to really screw things up. Between removing that and shaving a couple characters, things improved.
