if you want to get interesting scratches try doubling 2 tracks of scratching on top of each other. Its impossible to do most scratching you hear recorded on albums one right after the other its mostly layering of multiple takes and tries in the perfect order. So with a belt drive and a good recording unit you can easily make some cuts that sound good to you.

there is a whole art form to turntablism and much more than some "nice layers" IMO.
