What's up with my Q-links

So, I got this refurbished 1000 from musiciansfriend and I noticed that qlink one doesn't trigger any of the qlink functions and q link 2 triggers 2 just fine, but it also triggers one in a delayed manner. Has anyone encountered this...is this a programming issue or a mechanical defect/short ? Do you think that I should send it back, or is there any remedy?

If you are running the Akai software, I'd say it was that. I never used q-links before JJ fixed them because I always ran into wonky dynamic control switching issues that pretty much amount to the kind of thing you are describing.

You could tell it wasn't the hardware because certain limited parameters could be changed but not most others, especially if you started shifting the functions back and forth.

yes, I have them on. When I switch one off two works fine, but when I turn both on (using any qlink function), two works but one is somehow controlled by the movement of qlink 2. and the the qlink 1 slider doesn't trigger anything.

from the jjos website:

To one PAD Two Q-LINK NOTE ON cannot be used.
Example.
Q1: Change:NOTE ON arameter:TUNE : ==>PAD01.
Q2: Change:NOTE ON arameter:FILTER : ==>PAD01.
In this case, FILTER of Q2 works.
This is the specification of AKAI.


the fact they're both turned to 'note on' is your problem i think. it is also why there appears to be a delay in the q-link affecting the pad: it only reads the change at note on, not all the time. for that you need to switch it to 'real time'.

thanks for the indepth diagnosis...I really do appreciate it, but I have two MPC 1000s, and I do know how to use the qlinks relatively well. And what I can do on one, I am not able to do on the other. I'll take your advice and give it a try, but it seems to be some sort of error, not on my part, but on the part of the mpc. I just didn't know if it could be remedied by some sort of system reset, or reload os, or if it was in fact a physical defect.

should I dare ask you how to do a system reset, or should I research it myself?
