is a harddrive any faster than a CF card?

saving my ~45MB autoload folder takes 5-10 minutes when i save it to my compact flash card. how long will it take with a hdd?

this really sucks, i go out for a cigarette and when i come back the saving proces is still running...

there's very little discernable difference, but, in actual fact, the hd will be slightly slower.

yea the HD will be pretty similar. you gotta make sure to set up your files\folders correctly though. don't have 9999999 files in one folder cause that will take forever to open just to browse it. organize it all into folders so it's quicker. but in terms of the autoload....i don't know. maybe you have a type 1 CF card which is slower (i think, i really don't know much about CF cards and speeds)

any idea why it is so ****!ng slow?

hard drives are slow because the internal disk has to spin, and the hard drives for our beloved MPCs are laptop drives, which turn at a slower speed than the one in your PC.

CF is slow because it is an older technology. it's read/write speed is pretty slow compared to just about every other flash media (ie. SD, memory stick, memory stick duo, etc...).

i mean my HD isn't that slow...yea it takes about a second and a half when i first try to load something (while the HD starts to spin) but once that happens it's straight....

my HD used to take FOREVER but that's b/c i didn't have my drive organized right....i had ALL my samples in no folders or anything so it took a real long time to read, but once i put them in folders it was gravy
