what is the point of a hard drive?

I just got and installed a hard drive into my mpc and realized that it doesn't all work like i imagined it would. if you cant assign all samples that the hard drive can hold or even record onto the hard drive, what is the real point of even owning one?

any hints would be good.

but i cant see how i can fill 20 gb with a bunch of 50kb samples

itd just be nice if you could pull programs from the hard drive itself...
will that ever be available?

You cant pull and save programs off the harddrive?

he's talking about directly streaming them from the hard drive rather than loading it from RAM

The hard drive can hold every single thing that you create on the MPC. You can store .wav files, programs, samples, sequence information, everything. You can also store music files in .wav format (for example, your entire music collection) on the hard drive and pull them up for trimming and chopping if you want. The hard drive is...a hard drive. It stores sh*t.

no need to jump all over him. fair question from someone who hasn't spent much time on these forums yet(like myself)....I'm waiting for my HDM10 kit which will be at Mikki Gakki on Wednesday (woo hoo!). I live in Japan so akai stuff is nice and cheap. The idea of the hard drive is so you can avoid having a collection of CF cards for storing everything. It's probably quicker to load and save from the hard drive too, compared with a flash card. Unfortunately the limited 128 ram means you can only have access to that amount of info at a time (correct me if I'm wrong-just using pc knowledge rather than mpc specific).
