Hi guys, I have been in the shadows for about a month now, ever since I purchased my second-hand red & blue MPC1K. I have learned a lot from these forums so a big thank you to all senior members for your infinite wisdom!
Back to the pads issue... a week ago I noticed two of them were going dead. I read and re-read this entire thread and printed the color pics which detail how to open it up—big shout out to monophic—which helped tremendously. Sure enough three of the corners were loose on both black squares, which explained the loss of velocity.
I live in Montreal so I called the newly-opened Canadian Akai Service Center, located in Ottawa, just to try to get some kind of solution. In case anybody needs it, the number is 1-866-464-3533, the company is called Fleetwood Sound & Lighting. I spoke to David, a support tech who is aware of the problem and he offered me the following advice: "Sorin, I've talked to my Service Tech and his suggestion is to use contact cement or testers model glue. The silicon is just a little to pliable, in other words it's to springy, there's alot of give."
So there you go, the straight dope from an Akai technician. Until I buy new pads I will follow his advice. I know this might have been mentioned before but I believe it is the first time I hear/read it from tech support. I would gladly post a jpg of my sensor showing the detached black square but I don't think simply dragging and dropping the jpg in this window is the way to do it. Anybody can help with that, how do upload pictures properly?
