I plan on composing my beats with cool edit pro 2.0 (arranging samples and whatnot) Therefore its not neccessary that i need a sampler. I just need a drumpad so I was wondering if I should just get the MPD16 insetad of spenging a G on the 2000xlmidi. One question I had though is if it can be programed using .WAV's or is it just MIDI compatible? The same question goes for the XL, is it .WAV compatible or only midi? Besides those questions, do yall reccomend me getting the 16 or 2000xlmidi? Remember im just startring out but plan on stayin in the game for along time, so any of your suggestions/comments would help alot. Thanks

The mpd16 is fairly new, so i haven't yet tried it myself. It's basically just the drumpads of an mpc, without the sequencer and the sampler.
It's not fair to compare the two just on the price.
Using the MPD and cooledit does not sound logical to me. If you want to take full advantage of this thing, you'll need a decent software sequencer, a soundcard with very low latency, and something like Halion, or some other software sampler/module. This will probably be almost as expensive as the 2000xl.

My advise: go to your local dealer, compare the two. I'm sure you'll like the MPC better.
