U still learn a massive deal from listenin, and dont u enjoy the records u dig outside of samplin? listen and enjoyin the original etc?
Also u mention about drums goin on and not so much strickly instrumental.. dont limit urself to only choppin bits with no drums, u should be choppin bits with drums behind them as well and sequencin right so the chops work with ur drums etc, ie: any melody chop with a kick in goes over ur kick, any melody chop with a snare in goes over ur snare, and any inbetween bits and hi hat bits can go between them etc, plenty of hiphop is made like this, not just by usin the open melody bits..

PETE ROCK used a bit around 6mins 45secs in (for nas, the world is yours), not sure exactly if thats the spot and cant be bothered to listen and count right now lol, now although the whole break is equaly amazin and could be used all diff ways, i had given copys of the break to various peeps and none of them realized it was used in the nas track even tho they'd been samplin it.. simply coz they too lazy to listen through the track and pay attention.
Hahaha 'I love music' sooo true... I know nuff people who would of got all impatient and missed that sample, and loads of others in that track.
Love that tune tho, I found a nice lickle loop around 04:30+ ..yeah smooth lil number!!
Yeah man, that tracks too good.. so many bits to sample, and even just to listen, plus sounds hiphop all on its own, amazin piece of music
