Hard drive Debarkle

I just recently got 3 10gig external scsi hardrives hooked up to my MPC2000xl but i got like 5 gigs of drum samples on my PC, and i want to transfer them onto my hardrives.

I'm running windows XP and i checked and found that it is formatted to FAT 32, but when i hook up my hardrives to the PC, the drive registers in "My computer" but when i try to access it an error message appearsjavascript:emoticon(':(') . I've already formatted them hardrives to the MPC2000XL format.

Does anyone here use hardrives? help me out here. Or am i going to have to do the Zip Disk thang? I alreadasy spent a grand on these hardrives drives (that's in South African Rands)

have you tried any programs like CDxtrack, Awave or Chicken Translator?

those extract data from akai s3000-5000 format cds and i know CDxtrack does 2000xl. thing is that akai has it's own type of hard drive partition that pcs do not register.

as for coping samples on to the harddrive i'm not sure those programs will work for ya in that way but give her a try. hopefully someone else can confirm that for you.

Do you have SCSI card on your computer? If you do you can connect the external hard drive to it, and just copy/paste each sound between the two, I do this with CD's when I want to copy wav's to my zip since my old 2000 doesn't read wav's from the cdrom drive, only from floppy or zip...

i would have said that too but i'm not sure if the mpc can read a FAT formated HD's.

Will try those programs. I do have a scsi card. thanks guys i'll keep you updated.

I have been messing about the same thing but I gave up. The only way I found was to: make programs with mpc-editor, save on zip, put the zip in my internal mpc-zipdrive and load them on the mpc, then save the pgm with samples on my external scsi.

I only have 16mb ram so Im only able to transfer 16mb at a time. Even with 32mb it will take som time to transfer all samples and Im to lazy for that.

Let me know if u found a soulution! It would also be nice to be able to back up a scsi drive on the pc.

well personally i think i am giving up on the whole SCSI external HD (or at least get myself setup with a SCSI hub at most).

It might suit you better to have an external CDROM instead to back up your zips on CDR.

it's cheap and you can make multiple copies no problem. use the HD's if you want instant access to alot of stuff on the road or at a shows etc but even then it's not like you need that much at once anyway with those CDRs on hand but then again you can't save on them
