" i remember syncing my mpc 2000xl with midi beat clock no problem" quote Why not set up midi clock like before?

If you want to use midi time code you have to set it up in Pro Tools first if I remember correctly under the midi page. Some others may expand on this.

If you use midi clock from Pro Tools then you should set the midi note on Pro Tools transport window. Next the 4k should be set to midi clock and you are good to go.

On Pro Tools go to the top and to the window menu and down to transport settings you should select midi transport also. You will have the full transport window. Click on the conductor to open your temp settings and above the conductor button will be the midi note this will let you set up Pro Tools as the Master.

You need to insert an blank bar on your mpc at the beginning of your song so the two can sync up. That is the nature of the system especially with Pro Tools.

i know this, i enter 2 bars in the beginning always, it just sounds like pro tools is quantizing the tracks, its sounds stiff....doesnt make sense...any ideas...

Could it be a kind of delay compensation? Cubase does this to me sometimes and it's something to do with the latency of my soundcard so I have to reduce it loads then record the audio and then put it back. It's a bit of a pain but you gotta do what ya gotta do...
