Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

Just upgraded to the 2500 from the 2000xl. I'm good with the MPC but really retarded on computers/downloading etc and been told this forum is helpful.

I have been highly advised to get the JS OS, I took a look at the link to the JS site from this forum and it was all jiberish to my small brain.

Can someone give me a real simple idiot guide of which is the best version to get, how to get it, and how to get it onto the machine and working. I would really appreciate it.

I don't want to start using the machine until I get this on there.

Thanks.

1. Dowload the free 3.xx version from here: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/

2. Put it onto your Smart Media Card. You'll need a card reader on your computer to do this.

3. Insert Smart Media Card into MPC2500 and turn the MPC on whilst holding the WINDOW key.

4. Follow on screen instructions.

5. Enjoy new OS. If you like the JJ OS, you can upgrade to version 5.xx for $30 (it's well worth it IMO).

Thanks for that, much appreciated.
I don't know what a "Smart media card" is. Is there any other way to transfer it easily from the computer onto the MPC?

I think you can also transfer the OS file to your MPC hard drive (assuming you have one installed) and then LOAD the file just as if it were a sample. This definately works on the JJ OS, but I can't remember if it works on the Akai OS.

Thanks again for the info. Is that what the compact card is with the MPC that says 128mb on it? If so then I think I'm good to go.

and you don´t need a card reader if you transfer the OSfile via usb to the CF-card inside the mpc

Sorry guys, you've confused me now.

Firstly, I have a card that came in the box that says 128MB Akai professional "MPC sound library". What is this?

Secondly, I have just bought some compact flash cards for saving off the MPC but not used them yet. Do I just download the JJ software from a computer onto one of those, and then load that card into the MPC?

Just so you understand my retardedness....I have always used the older MPC's as independent units using floppy discs to save music. So I've never experienced flash cards, smart cards etc.

Thanks again.

they're all flash card, because they all contain flash memory, but they have different sizes and shapes, as long as you buy Compact Flash cards, you'll be fine.
