I've got an MPC 1000 on its way to me right now so at the moment I am spending most of my time looking for examples/info on how this sweet little unit works. YouTube is a great source for this and whilst browsing I stumbled across your videos!

my pads aren't even really broken but I want those pads, probably within the next month or two I'll be ordering some of those suckers

Hello all. First and foremost I am brand new to this forum, and also to the world of MPC use. I bought my MPC 1000 a few months ago simply because I knew i wanted to learnhow to use it for production other than just my keyboard. Anyways, I have read all of you talkin about the pad structure and how it is of poor quality. Since I have never used any other MPC to really know what you are talkin about, Could somebody please explain to me what the difference is between the 1000 and the others as far as the pads go. What would be the benifits as well to switch the pads?

I have not used this really much at all to understand what all of you experts are refering too.

I do know that from the minimal use I have done, i notice that you can get double hits of the pads very easily..... Is that part of what you mean.

Are the new pads available now?

if your pads were starting to break, you'd know. one or more would start to feel "off." you'd have to really give it hell to get it to hit an audible note. if you just ran your hands across the pads, 1-16, you'd notice it doesn't behave like the others. if you hit it in the wrong place, not dead center, you will get lower velocitities. and it may have double hit issues, but that also may be user inexperience as you have to really let your hands bounce on them.

So r u saying that corner hits should not be giving u less velocity? If not, I definantly agree that these do that. As far as the double hits.... I think your prolly right about it being inexpierience, I am brand new to this machine or anything of its kind for that matter.

depends on where you're coming from. OG mpc1000 pads give less velocity on corner hits. this is something i emulated in my current design.

IMO the original sensor's concept is fine, it's their design that is pathetic. the new sensors use the same concept, but they're designed by someone who obviously has more than two brain cells kicking around up there. the old akai sensors -- not so much. i've worked with developmentally disabled kids who could have rigged a more durable pressure sensor than the one akai put into the 1000.

the pads are said to be "too hard and too thin." another quote is "weirdly floppy."

but this is all my opinion - however, you'll find it's shared.

Ok wel then If I wanted to go and change out the sensors and the pads, where can I get them from. I seen your video on myspace on how to change them, doesnt seem to complicated at all. I don't however think I'd want to do the soldering of the connectors. So I would need to get the sensord with the connectors already soldered, the new pads, and the spacer strips. Oh how much would that cost?
