Please Help!

Alright, I finally have my new mpc2xl...(its blue I might add if that means anything). So before I made the purchase of my new baby, I was using my friends mpc 2000 to get a feel for it (damn I was hooked!). Now this leads me to my question, I made mad beats on the old mpc 2000 which are on floppy but seeing how this new model has an internal zip how do I go about xfering my floppys to zip? Also I have a windows xp (no zip drive). Am i screwed?

oh yeah, is it possibly to add a floppy drive to my mpc2xl would that even be practical? please help whats the best way to get me on the right track?

Son I am with you to a point, I got mine off ebay and they added a zip and now I have to get the OS on Zip, cuz it was originally disk........I dunno if you can buy a zip disk for your computer and carry them over or buy an external floppy drive......

Atleast I'm not alone....I'm gonna go pick some zip's up right now...I think maybe just installing a zip on my pc might be the best way but If anyone has a another suggestion i'm all ears...

u can connect the zip drive to ur computer via scsi. u need an scsi adapter card for your computer.

yup u should be able to. thats what I was told because I had the same problem. When you goto that site, contact them and ask the same question to make sure. but im pretty sure that adapter (ADT-1) comes with software that allows you to drag and drop files onto the zip. ..

hoho...hold on. Sounds to me like you've got an internal zipdrive not a scsi.
You can do 3 things:
1. Take your zipdrive out of your mpc, and put into your computer. Transfer all your samples/songs to the zip and put it back.
2. Take the floppydrive out of your pc, and put it in the mpc. transfer samples.
3. I would do this: get a usb zipdrive for your pc. They're pretty cheap, and you're gonna need one anyway if you want to manipulate samples with software later.

Yeah I agree totally, PLUS an IDE Zip drive is about 10-20$, if your PC has an additional IDE slot, just install it in an available BAY. That way you can have floppy and zip and zip on MPC and transfer. Then your friend could bring his floppies over and then you can put them on Zip. And for the guy above, do the same, download the OS to your PC and then copy it to a zip drive. I don't even have the OS on zip or floppy.

Okay, So the zip for the pc is the best way to do it...Thats good because I definitley will want to use some software to edit my bangers once there done and it sounds like I could do it all via the zip drive on a pc. Thanks again to all who responded...peace!

If you just need to get the old stuff you stored over to your new MPC 1 time only, you can probably bring the disks into a Kinkos or something and copy all the stuff over, if they will let you do that.

I know you said you have an internal zip, but to whoever made the scsi card for the computer comment - getting a SCSI card for your computer so you can move an external SCSI Zip drive to it when you need is uber impractical. SCSI isn't like USB and if its not plugged in when the computer boots, it won't recognize it until you reboot. It's no USB

I'd suggest just buying a separate drive for your PC. You can buy a 750 meg USB zip drive refurb for like $60, and it can read/write 250 meg zip disks, but only reads 100 meg zip disks (so if you have an internal 100 on the MPC you'd be screwed .. in that case you'd need a 250 or a 100 for your computer). If not for the 1.44 meg storage limit, which would mean 23 disks to fill 1 fully upgraded with ram MPC, then for the 32 seconds it takes to load just ONE into memory. It takes my MPC about 9 seconds to load 32 megs from ZIP Floppys are a thing of the past. A lot of computers don't even ship with them anymore.

yeah, though I kind of miss using floppies beacuse they made you think "do I really want to save this whole sample? do I really need this in stereo? do i really want to sample the whole loop?" just beacuse of the size...

Sometimes having too many options is a bad thing (turns you into a secretary).

Right on! I purchased a refurb zip 100 (i figured just match the same mb's as my internal zip). And it works great! I already xfered some of my old beats to zip...so far so good. (all in all was like $50.00 zip & 2 100 zip disk). Once again the forum has came through...till we meet again folks!

haha yeah Though I certainly didnt miss having to chop up a 3.1 meg vocal sample into 3 files, put them on 3 disks, into the MPC, then reassemble them on the MPC
