ASR 10 or MPC 4000

I realize that they are two totally different things. However, if you were standed on a desert island and you could only have one piece of equipment what you choose. ASR 10 or MPC 4000? And especially WHY would you make that choice. Be specific, please!

By the way I was considering getting an ASR before I knew Kanye used it and even before I knew about this forum, so I'm not just trying to jump on trends. I need honest input to help me make some decisions.

I would take the MPC 4000.Only thing you would miss would be effects of the ASR.

Only problem with both of them:
If someone on a ship came to save you, he would prolly take them workstations with him, and leave you on the island

Oh and kanye uses the MPC4k as a sequencer.I hardly believe that someone will cop an ASR because Kanye uses it....to me the way his work sounds is nothing groundbraking(meaning just the way his records sound), its the music thats making the difference.He could do his stuff with any decent sampler/workstation out there.
Most people i know bought the ASR cause alchemist uses it.

If you allready have an MPC:

Dont bother buying the MPC4k.Copy an ASR to add to your setup.You'll have the nicest sequencer out there, paired with one of the nicest samplers out there.

If you dont have an MPC youll have to try the ASR and the MPC out to see what you like more...some people you take the ASR sound over the MPC sequencer and ease of use, some would do the opposite.

Well homez.... if u stranded on a desert island, u shouldn't get a ASR-10 OR a MPC4000.... u should get a Roland Groovebox, because that stranded desert island probably doesn't have electricity and the Groovebox can run on double a's!!!!

Anyway, after that lame joke, i still don't have an answer.... i really dont know... but i DO have a question... I was thinking about coppin a ASR10, but i have a question.... i always here about the sampler... never hear about the sounds. How are the sounds? Does it have tight pianos, or tight bass and organs or what?

i would take my MPC4000.


MistaMike4u, The asr has no sound, it is a sampler. You have to make your own, or buy sounds from dealers.

Yeah someone sellin a ASR on ebay said it did some simple synthesis too! And they said it's a hard disc recorder.
I was wonderin about that....

It's not a full fledged hard disc recorder but it does do the job, to a certain extent, but you could sample your live vocal on a 4000 and call it a hard disc recorder too couldn't you? Which one you'd bring with you depends on your opinon and the way you make music. Both are full fledged samplers, but the filters on the ASR and the effects are great, but the MPC has filters and effects as well, although not as sweet sounding, it does have better sound quality over all (if that even matters to you), a hard drive and a cd burner, and a built in phono preamp, so if you make a turntable out of cocunuts gilligan's island style you can sample some home made maracas and make a calypso beat on the island to impress the nekkid natives that may inhabit it...

basically, the sampler on the asr10 gives you that warm full sound that the mpc60 and the mpc3k give you. but along with the warm full sound you get a sh*t load of effects.
