DECIDING TIME! 1000 right now? Or save for 2500?

are you interested in coming? i'll have to bring a fat friend as a blind date

just save and get an mpc 2500 i think in the long run if you use the mpc on a regular basis it would be worth it to pay a little more.


Also out of all the mpc models, the mpc 1000 has the worst pads. and they are the most expensive to replace.

I wonder if the 11 MPC 1000 users that voted to get the 1000 has ever used an MPC 2500.

I made the same mistake you might make. BUY THE 2500!!!

I have both now... my 1000 is at my brothers house, probably not even being used. 6 of the pads are basically useless. The other ones suck too. But this was the old blue one. The new black one definitely has improvements...

My friend has the black 1000 (new) at his office, and I go there to work on beats. Same workings as the 2500, but just smaller, etc... The main thing is that the pads arent as big, less feel when you've chopped up a sample real fine, and you want to tap away at pads. TRUST ME, get the 2500. I'd sell you my used 1000 for cheap, but its just not worth it man.

I bought my 2500 at literally street price for 1100. HOLLA!!! 1400 is a really fair price, and 1600 wouldn't be bad either. See what you can find... look for street deals man... find those dudes out there with equipment man!!! Dont get scammed on Ebay, just hit up Craigslist, etc... If not, go to Forat and get the all hooked up one for 2000. Save for it, trust!

8 outs, big tiltable screen, more midi hookups (i think?), bigger machine all around, that means big pads (the original type, easy to replace, etc), MORE BUTTONS! You get a number pad, a plus and minus, etc... The ONLY thing I dont like about the 2500 is the scroll wheel. Its not as smooth and fast as the one on the 1000. But that could probably be upgraded too. If you buy it from Forat, you have the benefit of asking for that sort of thing too. Just another thing to consider. You know what my vote was for! -Jessiah

Greetings from Ontario, PSProductions! I got a cottage up on the muskoka lake, wat a place eh! Anyways, I picked up an XL and I have no complaints yet. The thing is a beast.

As for the whole battle going on here. Just do what you wanna do. But Nym is a credible source in this forum, and on the beats. Thing is, I'm sure he could bang out beats on a 2500 but he likes the portable studio. Some people like the extra 40 gb drive, some people like the sp1200 with 10 seconds of sampling time. The point is you gotta do you, and so long as the XL is in working condition, I'm sure you will be more than happy with it. You can always switch later on right? These things aren't decreasing in value all that fast.

Y'all are funny. I agree. Just do you. I got a 2500 and I did buy it new, added xtra ram and a 80Gb harddrive, then put the CD drive in. I feel like I have a 4k now. Just can't sample at 24/96, but I'm cool with that. Having the powerful "up to date" media storage is first and foremost. I just can't buy anything in 2007 with a floppy drive, and can't pay $1000 for anything that doesn't have CD ROM capabilities. Although the 4k has a lot of ups on the 2500 with respect to the sampler, the 2500 gives me the 8 outs, which is crucial because you can be way more creative when tracking. Putting snares and kiks into separate PT or Cubase tracks and processing separately is essential for me. I also get 4 MIDI outs, allowing me to hookup my Motif rack ES, my Ensoniq, my Yamaha drum machine and go sync into my computer interface. All from that one machine. I thought long and hard about the 1000 vs 2500 and went with the 2500. No regrets. But paying for equipment with floppy disks and SCSI in 2007. I just can't do it. Yeah, my Ensoniq uses floppy but I bought it in 1990! But have fun with your 2000XL. I hear its a great machine and sounds great. Its validated by multiple top heads. One Love.

i have been using the 2kxl for awhile, after switching from the 1000

they are both nice machines, i am going back to the 1k sometime soon

although I still think the 2kxl has a slight edge in the crispness of the sound especially from the main outs.

I used to have a 2000, then went to software/mpd16/pt for a long time, now in Japan I have 1000......wish I got a 2500, because the pads are too small, and you just feel like you are working on a dinky little machine. The 500 is a joke in my opinion, it's just there to get some money from peops who can't afford 1000, filling a market gap.
The tilting screen is worth $200 alone for me, no kidding. I hate leaning over the thing all day, and buying one of those stage rack things is pretty expensive too.
Basically I reckon the CD-ROM drive, Big stable pads, and tilt screen is worth a LOT. I'm getting a 2500 as soon as I see a good used one for sale here in Osaka.

Nym......I don't think you should be pushing this flawed machine so hard. Say you like it, but your posts are overwhelmingly in favour, and I think you undervalue the tilt screen/big pads/cd capability/and a lot of people don't want to mess with soldering irons etc....on principle alone (to a company who sells a flawed product) I wouldn't support this machine, but unfortunately I read about the 1000 problems on this forum post-purchase.
Personally I love soldering! I just made a arcade stick/buttons/box things to Japan arcade spec, so I can play xbox capcom vs SNK 2 properly! Sweet......

really? what kind of sounds can you get out of those wonderful devices that you wouldn't be able to create otherwise?

They are just clearly features worth mentioning. No wonderful sounds come from the screen, or the big pads, unless they inspire you to work longer hours on the machine, and good beats follow. For me that's important, feeling good working at my machine, or PC, not hitting the pads half assed because I'm scared they'll break, and leaning over my 1000 all the time watching the screen. I want to be comfortable with whatever I'm using.

It sounds like you are really happy with the 1000's portability above all....I agree for sure. Very easy to take into a studio, or mates house etc... The 2500 doesn't have that.
Price is great too, which is why I bought mine, and it's good they allowed a HDD to be installed, which I did straight away.

When cash is really tight, the 1000 is a great way to get going, but like I said, for me I'd pay the extra $ for the screen/pads/cd drive. My studio is limited here in Japan, so an all-in-one is important to me. My temporary laptop pc is crap too, so I wouldn't run a daw on it, which is why I want to be able to bounce straight to CD. I can do that with a 2500 right?
