problem with 4.64

hey,

just upgraded from 4.51 to 4.64 and am having a bit of weird problem -
could be something simple so any help is appreciated.

basically all seqs playback fine, but if i actually try to manually play beats -
i.e. tap on the pads - no sounds come out.

all levels are up, all samples assigned, all cables connected etc. just no
sound.

any one had this problem?
not sure whats goin down, probly something simple that i over looked.

That sux. Did you try the reset?

no haven't tried that yet.

just went backwards through the OS and same prob with .63 and .55
but still ok with .51

it works fine for a while on .64 but then cuts out abruptly. i checked the
mixer screen and all levels are down to practically off. but seqs will still
play ok.

so i'm not sure if it's using some automation globally or what's goin down.


what parameters does the reset change?

The mysterious jj os makers call 'local on/off' 'pad to internal sound' and the setting it is found on the midi page. Set this to 'on'.

This would account for the 'no sounds when tapping pads' phenom because it breaks the connection between the pads and the internal sounds and is quite useful when using your MPC in certain midi sequencing configurations.

My only guess about the mixer level problem is that a controller is being reinterpreted or remapped. If the sequence or song you're having trouble with has a whole lot of midi CC's in it, try pulling them out one at a time, then putting them back with the 'undo' button until you find the one that's causing trouble.

I would also strongly recommend a default reset after reloading the OS. This assures that all toggles are restored to a default state, regardless of what it tells you on the screen.

I believe I've seen at least one person on here who reported that after an upgrade they were unable to change particular parameters by switching the on screen toggles (the display would switch, but the parameter wouldn't change) until they performed the reset.

also - have you guys been reformatting your hard drives/CF with each
subsequent update? or once out of the 2.1 corruption loop, it don't matter?

As long as you format once with any JJ from 3.06 on, it should be fine.

I thought the reboot after loading the new os WAS a 'default reset'.

Where in the new os is the actual default reset performed?

tried the reset as you suggested muz, and haven't had any problems since. thanks for the help again.
