A couple of questions about the 2000XL

I'm a vinyl junkie and a boom bap-fanatic, learning how to master the 2000XL. I have a couple of question for you guys:

1. Let's say I have three samples assigned to three pads. I wanna use different filtering settings (using the filter from the effect card) on these three samples. How do I do this? I can only manage to activate and set a filter on M1 and on M2 and then send sample 1 and 2 to each of these effects. What do I do with the third sample? I want to use a completely different filter on it than that found in M1 and M2.

2. Let's say I record a 2-bar drum pattern. Can I copy those 2 bars and make the pattern, for instance, 4 bars instead?

3. How do I record sounds from several programs in the same sequence?

1. If I'm not mistaken, you can only use one setting for the M1 en M2 filter in each program. So if you assign your third sound to another pad in another program, you can use another filter setting. I'm not 100% sure about this so somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

2. No you can't. You can either copy that sequence to a new sequence so that you have two two bar sequences that add up to 4 bars.

3. You can set the drum for each track in a sequence. So for instance you can edit program1 for drum1 and set all your bass samples in that. You can edit program2 for drum2 and set all your drum samples in that. When you go to the main screen to record your sequence, you can set the drum to drum1, drum2, drum3 or drum4 for each track.

Yeah, that's what I did when I was trying yesterday, not being able to extend the sequence:) But still, thanks!

3. Yeah okay, but say I have recorded a sequence with sounds from Drum 2 and then change it to Drum 1, won't the sequence then be played with the Drum 1 sounds instead?

If you go into song mode and sequence the song so that it plays the 2-bar sequence twice, you can then save the song to a new sequence that will be 4-bars.

All of these questions can be answered if you had gone through yout manual and played with your machine at the same time dude.

Once you record on drum1 leave the muthafreakin drum1 alone or yes, it will change.

All of these questions can be answered if you had gone through yout manual and played with your machine at the same time dude.

Nah, I wasn't frustrated at all.

The thing is, once you record your performance and are happy with it.

Move to a different track and set up that track to play something different you want.

Don't mess with the recorded track.

If you change the instrument that was recorded, the note events are still there but the instrument changes and it's not what you wanted permanently. So record it, be happy with it and leave it alone. Move to a different track and continue one with your other instrument(s).

#1. ReckOne is correct.

pg 138, 2kxl manual states:
"Drum: For selection of the 4 drum programs that can be used
simultaneously on the MPC2000XL. Setting the effects assigned to the
selected drum program is done here.

Note: Each drum program can have its own effect setting, but only one effect setting can be used.

Pgm: For display of the program assigned to the drum selected in the Drum: field. The program can be changed here.

Edit: Selects the effect to be edited."

Aha...ok. That sucks actually. So, what do you suggest I should do then if i want to use, for instance, more than two types of filters in a beat?
