Aright, I finally have gotten together a bunch of sequences that I like and I put them into song mode. It plays back a completely different sound,

and YES I know it has to do with the tracks and programs, but others peoples explanations are unclear!!! How in the hell do I sync everything now that I've already recorded the samples on the tracks....

Is there an easy way out of this, or do I have to start all over.
(I have about 6 sequences with about 4-6 tracks on each).

Please explain clearly if possible because I'm really having trouble with this and yes, I've read other posts.

Your help is really appreciated.
Thanks.

it's simple really, you just have to make sure the tracks match between sequences. so, if: sequence 1, track 1 is bass, then make track one in all other sequences bass as well. by bass i mean 'a bass program'. so, make sure all correspondong tracks use the same program between sequences.

Also make sure that you don't use muted sequences, because the mute settings of the first sequence will be applied to all sequences. Just erase the tracks instead of muting them.

The setting of using the first sequence as a reference can be changed though.

Thanks for the help. The trouble is that I have used different sounds from different programs for example, seq 1, track 1 has a bass line, then seq 2 track 1 has a vocal, and they're already recorded. I guess I need to organize my programs so that all my sounds are where I need them, which will take forever. If I move the tracks to unused tracks then I can align them.

Does it matter if some of the tracks program is "off" or do they need to have the same program even if for example seq 3 track 2 has no recorded material?

By the way, whats the best way to get a bunch of sounds onto one program. Like if I want to load some sounds from the computer and make a program of all drums.....

Also, do you know of any sites to get free, good, drums? Its a real tedious task taking drum sounds from songs and cutting them up, I know thats now how everyone does it though.

I know this was a lot, but I really appreciate any help from you guys.

Thanks :D

after a while you will get to the point where you start organizing your tracks the same way. As far as tracks and programs go.

It took me a while but now i have a way of doing things.

You might want to just boot up your MPC and make a template for all of your beats.

label the tracks for everything that you would want in a track. Then save that program with all the settings that you want, without actually recording any audio in.

Then every time you load up your MPC you can load that project and have a fresh drawing board to organize your thoughts.

when you save the beat you just change the name.

Appreciatte the help.

one more quick question.

What is the best way to put a song together. I found that sometimes I want the same drums that I recorded to continue on another sequence. I've been copying the sequences and then recorded the next track. I feel like this is tedious sometimes and am curious what the most efficient way to put a song together is..

Thanks!

I always copy to a new sequence and add tracks. Try seq edit to copy tracks from one seq to another.

Nice, I've been looking for the sequence edit.....which is where....

also, when you have 2 sequences and 1 of them has 2 tracks while the other has 4 tracks, do I have to use the same program for the 2 tracks that are unused/program off?

In other words, do I have to have the same program for unused tracks (when converting to song mode of course).

Thanks,

Song mode itself has no problems playing the tracks with different programs. When converting the programs of the first sequence in which the track is used will be applied, cos in a sequence you cant change programs for a track.

If a track is not used, no program is chosen, even if it seems like there is.

I'm sorry, but that was extremely confusing for me....
I'm not quite sure what your saying.

Several times I've converted sequences to song mode
and they played back differently because the programs
were different.

Could you reword what you explained?

I appreciate your patience and help.

You convert from song mode to a sequence

In song mode it just plays the sequences in the order you tell them, so there should be no problem.
If you convert the song to one seq everything applies that modnar said.

if you exchange programs in the tracks for example

seq 1 = track 1 bass, track 2 vocal
seq 2= track 1 vocal, track 2 bass

and then in song mode

seq 1 x 2
seq 2 x 2
Converted to Song

It will not play the way you want
because all of the tracks have to be aligned with the same program
all the way through the "song"

so to solve this always use program 1 with track 1
program 2 with track 2 etc.
never exchanging programs and tracks.
you can fix what you did through copying and pasting all over the place
bringing the tracks and programs into alignment and then finally converting to a song
