Hi All,

Just got the 2500, first MPC I've used. Simple but powerful, its great to work with! I even had an ASR-10 rack years ago, funny to think they are in demand now.

So why does empty ram (no autoload on startup) show 10.4MB ram? And how much wave free is displayed if I install 128MB?

Peace,
B

...the "missing" 5mb are the factory sounds that are always loaded from the internal flashmemory. you cannot free them to use em for sequences, but you can replace the whole (!) five mb with you own samples if you like. search the forums on how to do that.
if you install the memory expansion you´ll get 128mb free sample memory after startup, because then the internal 16mb will be turned off (only the small 5mb internal samples can still be used).

Also, your memory is not only used for samples. A part is reserved for the OS, sequences and other info as well.

My 2500 equipped with 128 MB RAM shows 122.4 MB Wave Free after startup with nothing loaded.

You definitely need to max out at 128. I load a ton of samples in there and still have plenty of room left. Some laptop memory will work fine for this.

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking for compatible RAM soon - if I dont get laughed out of the computer shop asking for only 256MB these days :?
