Interesting debate this.

Just to try to understand what is being said here:

If you were to sample a Hip Hop track from today in 10 years time, would that make it legit as it's 'old'?
Or is it still uncool because it's Hip Hop?

I am just trying to bend my head around what makes it legit and what makes it wack.

Nah thats wrong to sample hiphop... not somin thats already been sampled like that, Its about diggin for old unknown sh!t (which usually becomes known after its been used.. but to stop sh!t goin stale peeps need to keep diggin for original samples).

When it comes to actually diggin the breaks and samples u dig for properly dont have to be "that" old.. plenty of hiphop like madlibs sh!t... Dangermouse.. all kinds sh!t was sampled from 80's library records like ones from the KPM series's etc etc...

Its just not cool to sample from hiphop tracks that peeeps have taken the time to dig the samples.. chop them and work them.. layer.. eq, etc etc... that takes alot of work and investment, and time. And skills.. wether its the diggin skills.. the beat makers skills when it comes to the processing (eqin, filterin, layering etc)... etc

haha there are no rules you fool :lol: its just an elitist attitude among samplists and besides everyone knows that you cant sample an already sampled drum sound cause it will sound just stupid and robotic. you really almost HAVE to sample from different records with drumsolos to get a decent drumkit. the fool you are. you just repeat what others say. do you even know how to get a nice drumkit? lol!! whos ignorant now?
if i find a neat bass sound somewhere in my hiphop crates i sample that sound to my mpc without a minute of hesitation!! WHO CARES???

It took time to learn the scales, chords and overall music theory to make those records also. I'm gonna say it like this you have one of the attidudes in hip hop that should just go away. A hot song is a hot song no matter how is made.

"original samples"? contradiction in terms... in my opinion, either you're FOR sampling or AGAINST sampling. the source is NOT the most important factor...it's the outcome! It couldn't be foreseeable by the "Hip Hop producer Gods" that people would be sampling from DVD movies...does that mean that we shouldn't? sample from ANYTHING!!!

yea..

i didn't know that people are getting drums from other hiphop joints :D i would never do it, but i don't care.. people are using presets, using 808 drums without layering, triton etc.. but if you're going to sample hiphop, layer it with something so it sounds little different, or something your own.

As long as you do it for the music.

I've never sampled any Hip-Hop. However, starting today I'm only going to sample Hip-Hop & laugh, laugh, laugh as I remember the stupidity of the TOY that said it wasn't cool to sample Hip-HOP!

First off I get what c0mplex was getting at,but think it's a stupid argument.I haven't sampled any rap songs.I eq my drums sometimes,but most of the time the soul records have good drums to start with after you layer them a little bit imo.

As i said.. ur not just jackin a drum sound when samplin hiphop.. ur jackin THEYRE layering skills... THEYRE EQ skills... FILTERING skills.. ur basictly jackin whatever beat makers engineering skills that u are sampling from.

If u cant get good drums.. then ur wack.. u havent learnt. GO AND LEARN TO DO IT URSELF INSTEAD OF JACKIN OTHER PEOPLES SKILLS!

And switch how am I a toy?? I do all my sh!t properly... Im the one who knows how to layer.. compress eq and filter properly to achieve my own sound.. Im the one who spends countless amounts of time diggin

And as for "toy" Im workin with some of uk's biggest, and have peeps come to me for beats like members of ny groups such as The Arsonists..

Ur the ones who are jackin other hiphop producers work.. In stead of learnin to do sh!t properly, why dont u learn the sh!t if u want good drums instead of jackin other peeps sh!t they put work and theyre skills into.

Ur only validation (if u wanna call it that) is ur ego sh!t on this forum and "number of posts equals respect" mentality.

Why dont u put somin into the scene urself instead of jackin from others!

the same when u sample a soul or jazz or whatever record, u are jacking them (drum player + enginneer who made it sound like that) skills.

the only way out of jackin them skills is go record your own sounds.
